St Aloysius College Higher Primary school-Mangaluru Welcomes New Director Fr Gerald Furtado SJ & Bids Adieu to Teacher Joyce D’Silva
Mangaluru: Students and the staff bid farewell to their beloved teacher Joyce D’Silva after her 38 years of outstanding and selfless service. It was a combined celebration as we welcomed our new Correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado S.J. On behalf of the student body, Gautham and Veekshitha spoke words of appreciation about Joyce D’Silva. Students offered flowers to the retiring teacher as a token of love and gratitude.
In his message, the correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado S.J said a teacher not only teachers to read and write but also to gain confidence. He thanked and wished Joyce D’Silva for what she was in the past 38 years. He also advised continuing a lot of fruitful work in the future. He then addressed the students and spoke about basic aspects each one must have to acquire a beautiful personality. They are reading, writing and working out simple arithmetic problems. This will not only help them in their all-round development also help them to flourish in the high school. He stressed that a strong foundation can put up a superstructure. He requested the students to imbibe the Jesuit qualities like love, compassion and concern towards the poor and underprivileged.
This was followed by reading of the citation by Liya D’Souza the Asst. Headmaster. The retiring teacher was then felicitated by all the dignitaries on the dais. The retiring teacher expressed her deep sentiments of gratitude for the opportunity to render fruitful years of service. The Rector Fr Dionysius Vaz S.J thanked Joyce D’Silva for her selfless service for the institution. He said once an Aloysian always an Aloysian. He also assured his support to the new correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado.
The headmistress Philomena Lewis, the Asst. Headmaster Liya D’Souza, the PTA Vice President Rekha Fernandes, SPL Alan Menezes and the ASPL Rishel Fernandes were present on the dais. The entire programme was compered by the students.
