St. Aloysius Institutions Honours Five Distinguished Achievers with Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award 2025
Mangaluru: St. Aloysius Institutions, in collaboration with the St. Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA), honoured five distinguished achievers with the Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award 2025 at a grand ceremony held at Fr. L. F. Rasquinha Hall of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru on Saturday, March 8.
The Eminent Aloysian Alumni Award 2025 was conferred upon Kanyadi Sadashiva Shetty, Chairman and Executive Director of Heranba Industries Ltd.; Lucy Mariappa, CIO of the Year Award recipient; Dr. Gurukiran Shetty, renowned music director; Dr. Oscar G. Concessao, international award-winning architect; and James Vincent Mendonca, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Delivering the felicitation address, vice chancellor of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Dr. Praveen Martis commended the awardees for their exemplary contributions to society. “Today, five extraordinary achievers are being honored for their inspiring work and passion for serving humanity,” he said. He highlighted the university’s expansion plans, announcing the proposed launch of a School of Law in 2025 following a successful online inspection. Additionally, he revealed plans for an engineering programme and the construction of two new buildings at the institution’s Centenary Grounds.
In his presidential address, Rector Fr. Melwin Pinto expressed pride in the honourees, remarking that for all five awardees, it felt like a homecoming. “You have dreamed big and overcome challenges with perseverance and dedication,” he observed.
Expressing gratitude, Kanyadi Sadashiva Shetty remarked that the award was nothing less than an Oscar, considering the dignitaries present. He also delivered the keynote address and shared insights from his TEDx talk. Lucy Mariappa acknowledged her parents’ role in shaping her career and reflected on her achievement of winning a gold medal in the All India Rifle Shooting competition and her leadership of the student council. Dr. Oscar G. Concessao emphasized the importance of resilience, stating that success is not about avoiding failure but embracing it. Dr. Gurukiran Shetty credited St. Aloysius for laying the foundation of his musical journey, while James Vincent Mendonca highlighted the institution’s role in instilling discipline, service, and integrity.
Programme convener N. G. Mohan welcomed the gathering, and SACAA President Anil Kumar gave the vote of thanks. Faculty member Renita Aranha anchored the programme. The programme concluded with dinner.
