St Aloysius P U College, Mangaluru- A Light House For Students
Mangaluru: COVID-19, the global pandemic that has wrecked havoc worldwide, is showing no sign of subsiding. The pandemic had led to the lockdown of more than a third of the world’s population. While the Indian government has now lifted the lockdown and relaxed a few restrictions in certain areas, normalcy is far from restored. More importantly, schools and colleges are still closed with very little certainty of reopening any time soon. How then do we cope with the situation we currently find ourselves in?
An institution that began by serving a few hundred students more than 140 years ago is today a complex educational enterprise that seeks to establish a congenial learning environment for students of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Guided by the motto “Lucet et Ardet”, Shine to Enkindle, it motivates its students to commit themselves to spread the light of knowledge and wisdom and to kindle the ardour of faith thereby forming men and women for and with others.
The college believes in the integral role played not just by the academics but also extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in shaping the overall personality of a student. The efficaciousness of this balanced view of the college can clearly be seen in the recently announced board exam results of the second year pre-university students wherein the college secured an overall percentage of 98.38, with several district toppers and four state toppers.
At St Aloysius Pre-University College – one of the premier senior secondary institutions in Dakshina Kannada -the COVID-19 crisis hasn’t stifled the institution’s commitment towards providing its students with uninterrupted access to learning and opportunities for holistic growth. In its constant efforts to provide its students with opportunities for learning through both academics and activities the college has already initiated online classes and a multitude of creative online courses such on Basic French, Communication Skill Enhancement, Information Technology and Ecology.
The college has conducted over twenty-five webinars on diverse topics such as Python programming, French Pronunciation, Preparations for competitive exams in the New Normal, Career Guidance, Artificial Intelligence, Culinary Evolution to name a few. Free Online CET/NEET crash courses were conducted for students appearing for the competitive exams. “Manvanthara”, a plethora of online Cultural and intellectual competitions was hosted for the students to provide them with a platform to exhibit their talents during the times of the lockdown.
The college also believes in walking the extra mile in times of anxiety & uncertainty and has initiated E-counselling facility and online peer support forum and parenting sessions which have been reciprocated positively. In an attempt to provide its students with spiritual reinforcement the college had also conducted online retreats.
