St Aloysius PU College holds 140th Annual Sports Day

Mangaluru: The 140th Annual Sports Day 2019–’We are One’ of St Aloysius Pre-University College was embarked on 14 November 2019 at Gonzaga Stadium. 63 Batches along with the PTA committee Marched on the occasion. Sports representatives participated in the solemn torch run.

The Sports day was declared open by the Chief Guest, the Commonwealth Games Gold medalist, Mr Pushpa Raj Hegde, Assistant General Manager of Syndicate Bank, Hampankatta, Mangaluru.

Speaking on the occasion of 140th Annual Sports Day, he congratulated the students on their exuberant march past and solicited them to be united but never compromise on discipline. He also highlighted the importance of inculcating fitness into daily routine. Mr Hegde urged the students to take part actively in sports and games, by keeping continuity and maintaining a balance between education and extra-curriculum activities.

Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, the Principal of St Aloysius P U College, remarked that Sports and games are compulsory in educational institutions and is necessary for the well being of a student. The College follows an English model of education system where sports is given equal importance and being a sportsman makes a person disciplined. Sports teaches us that victory and defeat are cyclical and helps develop a sense of balance. Playing a sport has multiple benefits. Be it the exercise, the discipline of learning how to play, regular practice, learning to follow rules, team work, kinesthetic skill or even the control over one’s emotions both in victory and defeat are all learnt on the play field.

Mrs Charlotte D’Souza, Vice Principal of Commerce and Arts, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest.

Also present on the dais were the the Finance officer of SAPUC, Rev. Fr Vinod Paul SJ, Vice Principal Mr Murali Krishna G M, Mr Alwyn Saldanha, Sports day Convener and Physical Directors, Mr Naveen kumar and Mrs Usha A J.

The Annual Sports day was declared close by the chief guest of the valedictory programme Mr Pradeep D’Souza, Deputy Director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports. Prizes were distributed to the winners. The event formally ended by singing the National Anthem. The programme was compered by Vishnu and Vandana.
