St Aloysius I PU College-Mangaluru Lad Naethan Pais Signs a Deal with International Publisher ‘Adelaide Books LLC ‘ based in New York-USA and Portugal, for His Story Book named “ARE YOU SURE?”

Mangaluru: He is only 15 years old, and already a budding writer whose article was published in an International magazine recently, and in the nearest future will be a full-fledged author whose 300 plus pages storybook will be published by an International literary magazine based in New York-USA. Meet bubbly young, talented and energetic lad Naethan Pais, a First year PCMS student at St Aloysius Pre-University College- Mangaluru, and son of Manoj Pais, an ex-banker from Dubai, and Ms Shyne Pais, a homemaker, who after many years residing in Dubai have come down for good, and settled in Valencia, Mangaluru, since six years, along with their Son Naethan, and daughter Michelle who is studying in 7th class at Manipal school, Mangaluru.

While talking about young writers — many scribes under the age of 16 — that have been seeking nontraditional ways to share their written word with the world, and here we have our own son of the soil Naethan Pais, who has now made his name big in the international magazine based in New York-USA. It seems that self-publishing companies, outlets already increasingly popular with adult authors, are inspiring more children and teens to sell their tomes online, allowing them to bypass the traditional gatekeeping system for determining who can call himself a ‘published author.’ Some writers are scoffing at the idea. There are no prodigies in literature. Literature requires experience, in a way that mathematics and music do not.

Naethan Pais, the child genius who was prone to fits of fantasy and solitude, had begun writing stories before he was three-years-old. As a child Naethan started out as a comic book artist, drawing his own stories and portraying them with dynamic and detailed artwork. As an avid reader since the age of three, the stories and worlds that he had been exposed to have shaped his imagination and cultivated his passion for telling stories that resonate with people. Over time, he became increasingly interested in crafting complex and intricate tales and as a result, his writing developed. He aspires to be a part of the film industry as an animator who wants to push the limits of the medium and portray visuals that are unimaginable and thought provoking.

After being inspired by a short story by his favorite author, Naethan began submitting his work to numerous publishers. Adelaide Books, a publisher based in New York and Portugal picked up his story and featured it in the March 2019 edition. Since then, Naethan has been working on a full-length book for the publisher. The novel titled- ‘ARE YOU SURE?’ is a psychological fantasy thriller that revolves around memory modification, about the character Jules Henderson. Using his artistic skills he will be illustrating the book to highlight key plot points and add emphasis. The novel is scheduled to be released May or June 2020. At 15 years old, He has accomplished something many adults can’t achieve. It’s like, “You can basically do anything if you put your mind to it.” and for that matter, Naethan’s achievement is truly amazing!

Yes, the world is changing — it’s possible for anyone to do almost anything they set their minds to, and Naethan is a perfect example. Publishing could be great fun for young children/youth, because part of writing is living and exploring the world and interacting with the world, and to get that good feeling inside that you’ve achieved and done something. Today, a 15-year-old author has as good a chance of creating a following as a 50-year-old author, and maybe a better chance because they understand the nuances of social media.

Born on 17 February 2004 in Dubai, Naethan did his early schooling at the Al Diyafah School in Dubai, and after coming down to Mangaluru with his parents, he continued his schooling from 4th standard until 10th, at Manipal School, Mangaluru, before joining St Aloysius PUC, Mangaluru this year. Apart from reading and writing a lot, His other hobbies are Cycling and listening to podcasts on Art and Literature. Speaking to Team Mangalorean Naethan Pais said, “It was in October 2018 that I wrote a short story and submitted to a bunch of international publishers, but I was lucky that Adelaide, a publishing company based in New York, USA and Portugal accepted my story (Tomorrow) and incorporated in their publication in March 2019”.

“TOMORROW” is a science fiction story about a man who goes back in time to prevent something from happening. Not only that my story got published, but Adelaide has also even offered me a book deal, which I am presently working on. It is 300 plus page novel which is a structured story named “Are You Sure?”, and the best part is that simultaneously I am working on its illustration, which I will be in the nearest future submitting it to the publishers for final approval. I believe in finding my own style as art is a limitless medium and also very subjective. My inspiration are artists from all over the globe and grasp their ideas/achievements browsing through YouTube videos. Also, I have even created my own paintbrush from a feather, for fine strokes, and love portraying stories through art” added Naethan.

Sharing a Novel with his Sister Michelle

Narrating about his upcoming book “Are You Sure?”, Naethan said, “The Book is a psychological fantasy thriller on memory modification, about the character Jules Henderson, and it is about the world forgetting him. In the meantime, while I am getting my book ready, I will also be launching a website “the wannabe-writer” within next week, which will provide details about the progress of the book and behind the scene history. If everything goes on well, my book could be published by May or June 2020″.

Beaming with pride and joy about her Son’s achievement, Naethan’s mother Shyne Pais speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “It was indeed a surprise gift from Naethan to me and my husband, when we came to know that his story had been published in Adelaide literary magazine. During my shopping spree recently at a mall in Dubai, I got a call from Naethan saying that his story has been published. Until that moment, I was not aware that my son had started writing articles, and since we share the same laptop, I am surprised to note where he hid this story. We knew that he was working as a comic book artist and our home is stacked with his artwork. I and my husband feel happy about our son’s writing talents”.

Continuing further Ms Shyne said, “At the age of three Naethan started his interest in reading, and by the age of six, he had already brought out a 20-page booklet titled ‘Frecles’ on the life of a boy. Like other kids, he also loved characters such as Tarzan and Spiderman and would love to narrate stories to his aunts during our long drives. His stories would never end, and as a kid, Naethan was very creative and imaginative. Naethan’s reading habits started when I restricted him from watching TV for long hours. He was very much addicted to TV, that I put an end to it, by only allowing him to watch TV during weekends- and it worked miracles, turning Naethan into a reader and a writer. He also started working as a comic artist, with no formal training. As parents we always knew he had tremendous creative potential and seeing his exponential growth has made us feel both astounded and joyous.”

Naethan Pais seen with the Principal of St Aloysius PUC-Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ

Having all praises for Naethan Pais, the Principal of St Aloysius PUC-Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ said “We feel proud to have a student in our institution emerging out as a young budding author. The Motto of St Aloysius institution is ‘Lucet et Ardet’-in Latin words which mean ‘Shine to Enkindle’ refer to the mind and heart. It is the deep desire of this Alma Mater to present to the nation and to the world men and women with minds bright with knowledge and creativity, and hearts burning with genuine love and concern for others. And fresher Naethan who just joined our College is a perfect example for other students. On behalf of our Jesuits and college, I wish him all success in his endeavour”

So here we have a young writer in Naethan Pais, who is a hero for the young ages, one who proves that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out. In conclusion, in my perspective, to all those young ages out there following in the footsteps of Naethan by taking writing seriously as a young person can turn into a career path. But it can also serve as a launching pad into seemingly unrelated fields. Just look at Naethan, a young budding author featured here. So if you decide to make writing a passion more than a hobby, take your writing seriously. It can take you anywhere. Even if you don’t make writing books your career.

Sources reveal that the discipline of writing regularly is one of the most valuable habits a writer can develop. It strengthens writing, compels creativity, promotes problem-solving and self-criticism, and teaches perseverance and patience. It’s the monotonous (and unglamorous) rhythm of writing over and over again that serves as a catalyst for shaping strong, long-term writers. You want to be a writer? Then you’ve got to write. Great writers write consistently. They’ve learned that writing is a discipline. To all you young ages out there, take up writing, and be just another Naethan Pais!
