St Antony’s Church Sastan welcomes NYC Cross
Udupi: In view of the national youth convention scheduled to be held on 18th to 22rd Jan 2017, at St Joseph’s engineering college campus, Mangaluru, the NYC Cross is being taken to different parishes of the Udupi Diocese.
The NYC Cross arrived at the St Antony’s Church Sastan from the Holy Cross Church Trasi on December 8 and was handed over by Fr Charles Lewis, parish priest of Trasi Church.
Fr John Walter Mendonca, the parish priest of Sastan Church, brought the Cross to St Antony’s Church Sastan, in a procession. The parishioners welcomed the cross by offering flowers in front of the church gate. Later, Fr John Walter Mendonca offered prayers to the Holy cross and explained the journey and importance of the NYC cross to the gathering. Thereafter, Taize prayer was held for all the gathered which was conducted by Fr Anil D’Souza Dean of Kundapur. At the end, everyone gathered were given a chance to get a close glimpse of the cross and receive blessings.
Fr John Walter Mendonca, Michael Lewis Advisor ICYM Sastan, Melcon Lewis President of ICYM Sastan, Zeena Furtado along with the Parish youth, Diocesan office bearers and a large number of Lay faithful witnessed the Ceremony.
On 9 December, the cross will remain in the Sastan parish, there will be an Adoration from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. Thereafter, a mass will be held in respect to the Cross. After all the ceremonial celebrations, the cross will be handed over to St Peter’s Church Barkur.
