St Antony’s School Sastan Holds Annual Sports Meet

Udupi: The Annual Sports meet of St Antony’s English Medium School, Sastan was inaugurated with a very impressive display at the school ground on Saturday, November 24. The students and athletes of the School put up a very impressive display during the welcoming ceremony of the guests followed by the march past led by the school band.

The Chief Guest of the day Bhujanga Shetty, Taluk Physical Educational officer Brahmavar was accorded a warm welcome with a salute by the School Band along with the guests of honour of the day Fr John Walter Mendonca (Correspondent of St Antony’s School, Sastan), Sr Julie Fernandes (Headmistress of the School), Louis N D’Souza (President of PTA), Louis M D’Souza (Secretary Parish Council) and escorted them ceremoniously to the specially built dais. It was a wonderful display of school band played by little students of the school.

Sr Julie Fernandes (Headmistress of the School), welcomed the gathering and accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Guest Bhujanga Shetty and all other guests on the dais. The school students sang a prayer song invoking God’s blessings followed by the felicitation of guests of honour with floral bouquets by staff members. The sports flag was then hoisted by Fr John Walter Mendonca.

The guard of honour by all athletes was received by Chief Guest Bhujanga Shetty followed by the lighting of the sports flame by leading District level and state level winners and participants.

In his message, Bhujanga Shetty said, “Participation in sports activities would inculcate sportsman spirit among the students and prepare them well to face the world with grit. Time sense and discipline are the stepping stones for success and it will help every student to achieve their goals. Defeat and victory are common in life. One should not become too proud of the success and should also not break down during failures. Victory should be accepted with a level head and failure should be taken as a stepping stone for success. The fight to win is important and it helps to develop other qualities in human beings,” he said.

Those who performed well in March past were honoured with the trophy each by the Chief Guest. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Joshwa. The vote of thanks was delivered by Asha Joythi and Anitha compered the programme.
