Udupi: The kindergarten convocation ceremony of St Mary’s English School Kannarpadi was held at the School auditorium here on Friday, April 1.
The programme began with an invocation by the school students. Myrtle Lewis principal of the school welcomed the gathering. Fr Denis D’Sa PRO of Udupi Diocese and parish priest of Kuntalnagar Church, and Vanitha Pai, Children’s Author and director Art 1st Foundation were the chief guests of the day. They awarded the convocation certificates to 90 upper kindergarten graduates.
In his message Fr Denis D’Sa said that the role of teachers in the development of this nation is notable. Teacher’s profession is one of the sacred professions on earth and only after asserting such values they have chosen the profession. Teachers are the guiding lights to the students. It is very important that a teacher should teach from his/her heart and not from the book. Teachers should teach their students to be good human beings. Teachers should have Dedication, Direction, Determination, Devotion and Decision in their life. Teachers can influence the minds of students. A teacher has to be an intellectual leader and that is how a teacher can put a mark in the minds of students. A teacher should be the transmitter of high values. Teachers should see to it that the students get a socially oriented education, he added.
Further Addressing the parents Fr Denis said, “Home is the first school, and parents are the first teachers. Home is the setting for an individual’s emotional, mental, physical and spiritual growth. Parents should teach their children to respect other religions when they are small”, he said.
Vanitha Pai in her message said that there is a need for quality in education. Schools have to focus on providing value education. Students should focus in their life to become truthful, thankful and helpful, she added.
Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas correspondent of the school presided over the function. Fr Royston Fernandes assistant parish priest was also present on the occasion.
