Stage All Set for Konkani’s Mega Stalwarts at First World Konkani Music Awards- Bambolim-Goa
Mangaluru: The stage is set, winners selected and the all action turns centre stage at Konkani music’s greatest night, the World Konkani Music Awards. All roads will lead to the Dr Shyam Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Bambolim-Goa, as the red carpet is laid out for dignitaries guests and music lovers on 7 February 2020 from 7.30 sharp onwards. The red carpet will begin at 6.30 pm.
Addressing the media persons during a press meet, Dolphy Mascarenhas- co-founder, Transformatrix and promoter of World Konkani Music Awards ( WKMA) said, ” The selection process has received an overwhelming response of 150 entries from across the world. Submissions poured in from America, London, Dubai, Kuwait, Mangaluru and Goa. It was tough selection for the judges, international singer Hema Sardessai, Nirmika Singh and Atul Churamani. They have made their decisions and the winners will be announced at the awards presentation on 7th February evening. The evening will bring together Konkani music stalwarts like Rita Rose, who will accept the prestigious award on behalf of her husband the late Alfred Rose for his contribution towards Konkani. Also, recognized for their achievements are the great Konkani Musician late Chris Perry and Mangaluru Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario”.
Also speaking on the occasion, Allan Vaz, founder World Konkani Music Awards (WKMA) said, “Goa’s Honorable Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will grace the function as the Chief Guest. Celebrities renowned Bollywood singer Baba Sehgal, Goa’s nightingale Lorna will be present and Lorna will perform on the big night. We are extremely pleased with the entries received for this First edition. Konkani music has a lot of hidden stars in the making. WKMA is the platform to showcase these talented individuals. I am very excited and looking forward to this music awards which is going to create history in the Konkani music world. Wish all the participants all the very best and May the best win .” The other members present during the press meet were- Ms Merlyn D’souza- Music Director and Ms Nakita Fernandes-the Winner of Miss World Beauty Queen.
Adding the glamour, charisma and charm to the stage will be hosts actor Luke Kenny and Nakita Fernandes, winner of Miss World Beauty Queen, 2nd Runner’s Up, South Korea. Recalling the briefing of this Award Night held at Mangaluru Press Club recently, Allan Vaz had said, “The First Edition of World Konkani Music Awards (WKMA) 2020 powered by Transformatrix LLP and in association with Mandd Sobhann, Mangaluru will be presented at Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Bambolim, Goa. WKMA is an award exclusive for the Konkani Music Fraternity and is backed by an advisory panel of well-known personalities. The esteemed panel of jury includes- Hema Sardesai- a International Diva, celebrity judge and social activist; Nirmika Singh-the Editor of Rolling Stones Magazine, song writer and critic; Atul Churamani-the Managing Director of Turnkey Music and Publishing, and who has worked with music labels like CBS Gramophone Records and tapes (I) Ltd, Magnasound India Ltd, Virgin Records and Saregama India Ltd”.
Vaz had further said, ” Other famous personalities associated with the event are- Merlin D’souza (Music Director), Toby Fernandes (Choreographer) and Goa’s Singing sensation Ms Lorna Cordeiro. Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant who has endorsed the WKMA will be the chief guest, along with top celebrities from Mumbai and other places. Awards will be for these categories, namely- of Best Singer (male, female); Emerging Talent of the Year (male, female), Best Song; Best Music Director; Best Lyricist; Best Music Video; Best Rock Band; Best Film Music; and Rising Star”.
