Stainless Steel Cross Installed at Kalmadi Church

Udupi: A Pure stainless steel cross, 3.5 meters high, 2 meters wide; weighing 250 kg was installed atop the Stella Maris Church, Kalmadi Malpe on Tuesday, 25 July 2017.

The structural work of the first boat shaped church began on 2014. The installation ceremony was marked by a prayer service by Fr Alban D’Souza Parish Priest of the church. Later the huge cross was installed atop the church by the help of a Crane.

The church is being built in a unique layout with a boat shape. The New church building has a total area of 10,000 square feet with 700 sitting capacity. The church will be renovated with an estimated cost of Rs 5 Crore.

Fr Alban D’Souza, parish priest, in coordination with Sanjay Andrade, vice present, Shobha Mendonca Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council and convener of the church renovation committee Louis Lobo have put in their efforts for the successful completion of the project along with the members of the Building Committee, the parishioners and workers.

The Karnataka’s first Boat shaped Church is all set to be inaugurated on January 6, 2018.
