State to get Six New Medical Colleges – Dr Sharan Prakash Patil

Udupi: Karnataka will get six new medical colleges next year, said medical education minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil. He was speaking at a Pressmeet held iat Manipal here on Tuesday February 28.

The new medical colleges will come up at Bagalkot, Haveri, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Yadgir and at the Bowring Hospital in Bengaluru with an intake of 150 students each.

The government is setting up new medical colleges to ensure that the poor get free medical facilities and meritorious students from the economically backward sections and middle-class get a chance to study medicine. Students should reciprocate government’s efforts by serving in rural areas after completing their studies.

Patil said that the government is setting up super-specialty hospitals in all the district headquarters. Our government is resolved to set up six new medical colleges in Gulbarga, Koppal, Chamarajanagar, Karwar, Madikeri and Gadag. Rs 400 crore would be required to establish a medical college. We have sent a proposal to allocate sufficient funds for the new medical colleges. We have started with six new medical colleges this year and are determined to establish at least one medical college in every district in the coming years, he said.

Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology has established their unit in tie-up with ESIC in the Medical Education Complex in Gulbarga City. The government has started a full-fledged Nephrology and Urology centre in the hospital attached to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute in Mysore. Peripheral cancer centres in Mandya and Gulbarga were upgraded to full-fledged hospitals, he added.

Replying over the diary issue which purportedly provides details of payoffs by state Congress members to their national leaders he demanded that the union government is free to hold an enquiry on it. BJP is playing a political game by releasing a fake dairy. When the BJP points a finger at someone else, they should remember that four of their fingers are pointing at themselves. The BJP leaders keep silent on the Sahara-Birla diaries, which has sufficient material to prove that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accepted kickbacks from corporate houses when he was the Gujarat Chief Minister. Meantime MLC K Govindraj also clarified that the diary seized by the Income Tax officials from his residence does not belong to him. BJP is simply playing political gimmick on it, he said.

Dr H S Ballal pro-chancellor of Manipal Univeristy was also present in the press meet.

Why not a govt medical college in Mangalore and Udipi. This is tragic. Being a pioneer in education we are still backward in getting Govt medical colleges to these two districts or this govt also supports private lobby as done by the previous governments. No protest by our leaders, who get wild for Ettinahole or visit of chief minister from another state
