State-level karate Championship begins in Volakadu School

Udupi: The Three day-long state level Primary and High School students Karate Championship was inaugurated at the Volakadu Government High School on November 25.

The Championship was jointly organised under the aegis of district administration, Department of Public Instruction and Volakadu government High School.

Prior to the inauguration, a procession was held from Jodukatte to the Volakadu School. Rajyasabha MP Oscar Fernandes flagged off the procession.

Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu inaugurated the Championship by lighting the Karate Torch and wished all success for the event. More than 1500 participants from the primary and high schools from 34 districts are taking part in the event. Accommodation and food for the players, team managers and instructors is provided by the school. The competition is being held in the Under-14 category for the boys and girls of primary school in five divisions based on weight and Under-17 category for high school boys and girls in nine divisions, based on the weight of the participants.

Dr G K Prabhu Director MIT Manipal, Kishore Alva CEO Udupi Power corporation, Nagesh Hegde president Udupi Engineers association, Jayakar Shetty Indrali Manager Badagabettu Co-Operative society, Geetha Ravi Shet Councillor, Divakar Shetty DDPI, B Nirmala Headmistress, Amrith Shenoy working president of the event, Nagbhushan Shet, Kusuma and others were present.
