State Medical Education Minister Dr K S Reddy hails 140 years of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions

State Medical Education Minister Dr K S Reddy hails 140 years of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions

 Mangaluru: In a scheduled visit to the medical college hospitals of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, Minister of state for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka and In charge Minister for the Control of COVID 19, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare- Dr Keshava Reddy Sudhakar visited the Father Muller Charitable Institutions, and Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

He was greeted by the Administrator Rev. Fr Ajith B Menezes, Dean of the medical college Dr J.P. Alva, Admin Thumbay Rev Fr Sylvester Pinto and the Medical Superintendent Dr Uday Kumar on arrival at the entrance of the Hospital. The Minister was then welcomed by the Director of FMCI, Rev. Fr Richard A. Coelho and Administrator of the Hospital Rev Fr Rudloph Ravi D’sa, and was apprised of the measures taken by the hospital to assist the government and people during this pandemic.
Following introduction of Heads of various departments, a brief history of the institution was essayed by the director and the units of Institution were enumerated. The director on behalf of the institutions gifted the Minister a Khadi bed spread designed by the workers of the Father Muller Rehabilitation Center. The minister said that it is something unique to hear that the Post graduation began in the medical subject before the undergraduate course in the Father Muller Charitable Institutions.

In his address to the gathered, the minister praised the institution with its 140 years of history to realise itself as the leading medical hospital with all the national accreditations (NABL. NABH, NAAC). He commended the medical fraternity for their untiring service during the pandemic. He highlighted the 3 C’s that the doctor carries with them i.e.; Caring, Commitment and Character. He was happy to hear that the hospital has set up a COVID lab and is helping the state government in testing COVID 19 samples. He promised his full support in times of need to the Father Muller Medical College Hospital.

The charitable nature of the hospital in rendering health to all even the poorest of the society is the most commendable job of the institution, he said. As a student of medicine he had always a desire to visit the Father Muller Medical College Hospital due to its fame and patient load. He extended his gratitude on behalf of the Government of Karnataka to the selfless service provided by the management and doctors of the hospital. He wished well to all and then proceeded to visit the additional Police Superintendent who has been admitted in the hospital- and the minister’s surprise visit brought joy to the police officer. This was the most genuine and caring gesture the minister did.

Later Dr Reddy was escorted to the Father Muller Simulation Center, where he was shown the state-of-the-art simulation models used to teach medical students and the general public. The simulation center has been recognized as the Center of Excellence by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru. The Minister was explained that Clinical simulations are activities that mimic the reality of a clinical environment and are designed to provide learners with opportunities to learn in a safe, friendly and risk free controlled environment and thus was demonstrated a few of the life saving procedures. Dr Lulu Sharief also briefed the minister that the center has American Heart Association (AHA) certification.

Along with the Minister were RGUHS senate members, Dr Shivasharan Shetty, Dr Ifthikar Ali and Dr Sharan Shetty. Fr Roshan Crasta, Administrator Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College, Rev Fr Nelson Deeraj Pais, Assistant Administrator FMMCH and the Management committee members were present during the visit.
