Stop drug abuse in Dandiya programmes: Durga Vahini
Mangaluru: Durga Vahini, the women’s wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has urged the Dakshina Kannada district administration in Karnataka to take necessary action against the alleged abuse of drugs in Dandiya dance programmes during Navaratri.
Durga Vahini district coordinator Shwehta Adyapady said that the organisation has received complaints of drugs and substance abuse in Dandiya (garba) programmes during Navaratri.
“Dandiya, which is a traditional dance being held during the Navaratri festival in North India, is also being organised in some places of Mangaluru city. The invitations for the programme are also being circulated among youths, asking them to take part in the dance. Dandiya is a religious programme held in the name of Nritya Jaganmate. However, we have received several complaints in the past few years about drugs and substance abuse, as well as vulgar dances during such programmes,” she said.
The district administration should not allow such programmes in the city at any cost, Shwetha urged.
