Stop Illegal Cow Slaughtering and Trafficking for ‘Qurbani’ During Bakrid – VHP

Mangaluru: “In Karnataka after implementing the Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act 1964 all animal sacrifices “Qurbani” have been banned. In 2015 the State government had ordered to form a committee under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner in all the districts. But the “Qurbani” has not yet stopped which is condemnable. On July 21, the state government has sent a notice to all the DCs to prevent animal sacrifices during Bakrid. But the DC of DK has not taken it very seriously as the cow slaughtering and trafficking is going on. If the illegal cow slaughtering and trafficking are not stopped we will try to prevent such acts together with the police”, said the district president of VHP Jagadish Shenava in a press meet held at the VHP office, Kadri here on August 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Jagadish Shenava said, “Since cow trafficking was rampant in DK, we had recently staged a protest in Vamanjoor after which the police are doing good work and have arrested many people. Since the Muslims are celebrating Bakrid on August 22 they will get cows and keep them in various places for slaughter “Qurbani” on that day. We have already approached the Police commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner and requested them to stop such activities. We also request the DC to form a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), a committee to prevent illegal cow slaughtering. We are not against the celebrations of any community, but we will not tolerate illegal cow slaughtering. The DC should allow the slaughter of animals only at the legal Kudroli slaughterhouse. If the illegal cow slaughter and trafficking are not stopped, we will join hands with the police and prevent it.”

Jagadish Shenava further said, “We have held a meeting to help the Kerala flood victims and have already started collecting blankets, towels, nightdress and bedsheets. We have visited various cloth shops and collected the necessary materials. Within 2 days we will send the collected items to Kerala. We are also collecting necessary materials for the Kodagu flood victims. We have given the responsibility to each unit to collect necessary items to assist the flood victims.”

State Working president of VHP Prof M B Puranik said, “Muslims should stop sacrificing animals during Bakrid and follow the order of the court. We also request the concerned authorities to take strict action against those violating the Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act 1964 act.”

VHP district Secretary Shivanand Mendon and Bajrang Dal District convenor Praveen Kuthar were also present.
