We have Stored Water for Three Months – Mayor Harinath
Mangaluru: “This year we have enough water for drinking. In the entire state, Dakshina Kannada is the only district where the water is sufficient for three months in the Thumbe dam”, said the Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Harinath in a press meet held at the Circuit house here on March 6.
Mayor Harinath further said, “This year the inflow of the water is less but we have stored water for three months. At present water level in the Thumbay dam is 5 meters and in the AMR dam, we have stored more than 18 meters of water. If we release the water from the dam we will face drinking water crisis in the coming days. If there will be no rains in Netravati and Kumaradara river area we will face water crisis only after three months.”
In the city, the water level is decreasing due to the hot weather. The Mangaluru city corporation has taken all the measures to develop ponds in various places such as Baggundi pond in Kulai, Baikampady, Gujjarakere in Jeppu, Kavoor, Bairadi pond in Padil Emmekere etc and within in a year all the ponds will be developed. The MCC has taken all the measures to improve the water level in all the ponds so that the water crisis will be solved.
The Mayor also said, “In my one year of tenure as the Mayor I have done my duties well and worked for the development of the Mangaluru city. Whatever projects I have taken up, I have completed them on time. Corporators of all the 60 wards have supported me to carry out my work smoothly and I thank them for their wholehearted support.”
MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Sashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, Appi, Kavitha Sanil and others were also present.
