It is without doubt, and a fact that since Biblical times to date, women have played an important role in society. The challenge facing today’s woman in the modern day society is quite immense considering the ever-changing socio-cultural and economic environment we live in today. Amongst the roles and responsibilities bequeathed upon today’s woman and yearning for her attention are discussed here.
Family union responsibility ? Today’s world is full of socio-cultural and economic woos and desires that are leaving many homes broken. The stress related to poverty, lust, jealousy, infatuation, just to mention a few ills, has led to many a family broken.
It is the role and responsibility of a woman to ensure she supports her husband fully in the ethical upbringing and education of the children on these issues. Women in this era, have made great strides in realizing success within the family union role. The woman also has two roles – wife and mother. Her role as mother flows from her role as wife. She can’t be a good mother unless she is first a good wife. A wife who sets a poor example in the way she relates to her husband cannot expect to raise children with good, right and proper attitudes So a wife should conduct herself with a heart that is meek, quiet and in subjection to her husband – lifting, supporting and encouraging him – and particularly in the area of raising children. It doesn’t mean she will always agree on every particular decision he makes, but there’s a way to handle it without subverting him.
Politics & Global peace role ? Today’s world has greatly been affected, or relies a lot on political activity taking place on global matters of concern. Further, it is a matter of fact that political activity continues to determine the destiny of world economies, international relations, a nation’s stability, etc. If we look back at some of the world’s conflicts ? war, hunger, poverty, health ? it goes without doubt that the majority of such disasters have resulted from bad politicking, self-interests and poor governance. More astonishing is the fact that most of these disasters have occurred where and when men have been rulers. History tells us that even in Biblical times, wars originated under male rule as Kings. Today, conflicts in Africa, Middle-East/USA, Pakistan/India, etc all exist and continue to blossom under male rule.
One may ask why is it so? The answer lies in the genetic fact that women, despite being more empathetic, have not been given the support and necessary opportunity to rule nations. If this had been the case, peace would certainly prevail in the world. Lets give women the chance as exemplified by Indira Gandhi & Chandrika Kumarathnga ‘s successful political career achievements!
Business/Human Resource Management role ? Today’s world economy relies highly on trade amongst nations through various business entities. Women deserve to play a greater role in the corporate world given that many women have become achievers in the academic field and have proven to hold unique business management skills. An example is Hewlett-Packard Corporation, headquartered in Geneva, where a woman is now at the helm of the Organization and has performed exclusively well in overseeing the successful merger of Compaq and Hewlett-Packard. And to drive the point home, women continue to be the role models in the crucial field of Human Resource Management worldwide. Corporations have recognized that placing women at the top in this core function has yielded best practices and harmonious human relations activity. Women are indeed competent Corporate decision makers due to their God-given gift of empathy and detail.
Professional sporting activities ? The ever rising hurdle of earning a living today has left talented women with the choice of going professional in sporting activities. Concurrently, the Williams sisters have attained a milestone in tennis sport, not to mention the USA ladies football team, etc.
The challenge facing women of today is to recognize their sporting talents and fully participate in order to exploit the rewards in this area and to afford their children a better living. Women should therefore identify any such talents in their children and encourage them into stardom for the benefit of generations to come. The woman of valor command respect for her achievements as well as for her personal virtues. She takes pride in accomplishing her work with excellence, and her wide range of activities offers ample opportunity to employ many skills. She is enterprising, shrewd, hard-working, diligent, a wise investor, and good manager. She handles all the affairs of her household in a well-organized, efficient way, and in so doing provides for the well-being of all who are a part of it.
