Today’s competition is already filled with colors, and it is where you can all unleash your hidden talents and show your teachers, parents and others present that you also have the capabilities, strength and determination to excel high.”
“Winning in a contest is not important, but participating in it is important. You are all winners-don’t lose hope if you fail once-try again, and again, and success will surely come your way. We should all have the will to win but winning is not everything. The whole struggle which you do to win something is also very important. But sometimes losing is also beneficial for us. It is not necessary to win every time your participate. Sometimes you have to go through failures too. At that time you should not be disappointed or frustrated at the result. Every experience teaches you something which makes you more mature and capable of dealing with problems. So, Participation is more important than just winning. If you will keep on participating in different events then surely one day you will get the result of your hard work. It is not necessary that every time the winner alone gets appreciation and fame for his work. Be bold, courageous, compete with determination and interest, and you will win” added Dr Shetty..
“At our school the mainstream learning goes hand in hand with social, philosophical and traditional learning, exploring holistic educational avenues for schooling. Based on the concept of integrated learning we focus on integrating indigenous knowledge systems, ecological sensitivity and social connectivity through many innovations. Our school’s educational offerings are enriched by a wide range of sporting and co-curricular activities, as well as community service initiatives, that seamlessly complement our academic programmes. This facilitates children’s learning on all levels – intellectual, physical, social and emotional. Best of luck to all the participants in Lumiere 2017 ” concluded Dr Bhasker Shetty.
Correspondent of HIS, Dr Roshan Shetty addressing the audience said, ” A school should instill in a child a lifetime love for learning and knowledge, and provide the foundation for all-round development and excellence. These aims inspire all of us at Heera International School in everything we do. At HIS, our focus is on creating an atmosphere of learning that children enjoy and one that encourages them to discover and express their talents to the fullest. We are driven by the belief that every child is important and the children should be at the heart of every educational endeavour. This makes us direct all our efforts to inspire and enable each child to believe in and practise our motto, ‘Dare to Dream…Learn to Excel’. It does not matter that you win or lose, all that matters is the courage to participate. It is very essential to fight in life rather than just conquering it. You should be ready to face all kinds of challenges and hurdles which come in your way. Best of luck, and let “Heera School” be a shining “Heera” (Diamond) among all other schools”.

There’s a saying, ” I may win and I may lose, but I will never be defeated. Look in the mirror…that’s your competition! Former Indian President Late Abdul Kalam had said, ” Success is when your ‘signature’ changes to ‘Autograph’. So in order to succeed, your desire for success must be greater than your fear of losing. People always think of success. They think of winning. But, they don’t always realize that, winning is not so important than participating. Participating is the main thing, as there is always something to learn . Yes, but if you can also win that is also good, but winning doesn’t teach you something (of course but, it teaches us the joy of winning), winning is something you take over because, you know a lot about it. So, there is nothing to learn by winning but, if we can’t at a time, we have to recognize that weaknesses of ours, and goal to study it so much that next time, no one can win over me. We have to participate and try to win it next time.
The Valedictory of the two-day ‘Lumiere 2017’ was held on 28 November at 2pm, where the winners were presented with the prizes won in various events. The chief guest for the occasion was Ms Cecilia Miranda Retired Principal of Kendra Vidyalaya School I& II- Panambur-Mangaluru, along with guests of honor – Dr Bhasker Shetty- President HIS and Dr Roshan Shetty- correspondent, HIS. “Taking part in any competition is important. You are all winners-don’t lose hope if you fail once-try again, and again, and success will surely come your way. You should not be disappointed or frustrated at the result. Remember that Participation is more important than just winning. If you will keep on participating in different events then surely one day you will get the result of your hard work. It is not necessary that every time the winner alone gets appreciation and fame for his work.” said Dr Bhasker Shetty while addressing the students.
Chief guest Ms Cecelia Miranda in her speech said, ” Years ago this was a remote and barren land- and now it has taken a new shape with this school, which is attracting quite a few young children. And with Janet Thomas as the Administrator of HIS, whom I refer as Jenny, while she calls me mummy, when we were together at a private school in the City years ago, this school will surely reach greater heights and attain success under the able guidance and leadership of Janet. Because of the love and affection shown by Janet towards teachers and students, this school will earn laurels and bring name to the management. And the opportunity given to students to unleash their talents by Heera School is worth mentioning, and students should make use of it in future too. Winning is not important, but participation is. Competition is a master, while participation is also a master. If you lose once, son’t give up- try again, and you’ll succeed”
Prizes were distributed to the winners by the chief guest and guests of honor. Janet Thomas-Administrator and Ms Shailaja Prabhu-Principal of HIS respectively also graced the occasion. The overall championship was bagged by Lourdes Central School-Bejai, Mangaluru, while the Runners-Up were Canara High School (CBSE)-Mangaluru.
