Students Voice Opinions on Several Topics at ROTEX Debate 2017
Mangaluru: High School students from across the district effectively argued and expressed their strong opinions on several contemporary topics, thus exhibiting their debating skills at the Dakshina Kannada district round of ROTEX Debate 2017, the state level debating event-As many as 40 teams with 80 speakers participated in the event.
Akash Shetty and Kalyandeep Ghosh of Canara CBSE School walked away with the winner’s trophy in the stiffly contested final round with Harsh S and Nitheezkanth R of Sharada Vidyalaya bagging the second prize. Hiba Thalangara and Aysha Abid of Presidency school along with Sujan and Shreyas S S of Canara High School Urva declared joint Third. Conducted by Centre for Integrated Learning, a Mangalore based individual development organization, this event is being organised since 2014 and this is the third such event being held. The two winning teams will now qualify for the mega finals of the state level ROTEX Debate 2017 to be held during the third week of December.
ROTEX Debate 2017 was inaugurated by Prof. Gopinath P A, Retired Professor of Canara Junior College who exhorted the students to avail all the opportunities to develop their individuals skills so as to face the challenges of the competitive world ahead. Founder Director of Mangalore Alzheimer’s Association Jerardin D’Souza was the guest of honour at the inaugural session in presence of Joy Rai, Principal of Canara CBSE School, Sachitha Nandagopal, Executive Director of Centre for Integrated Learning and Devicharan Shetty, Public Relations Officer of Innovative Learning Foundation, Moodabidri.
The awards were distributed during the valedictory session by Gopinath Bhat, Secretary of Canara High School Association. The event is being organised in view of developing a culture of debating among high school students and provide a platform to exhibit their oratory talents.
