Subrahmanya: Balpa village in Sullia taluk has been selected to be developed into a model village under a scheme announced by prime minister Modi. The project was launched by Dakshina Kannada’s Lok Sabha member Nalin Kuma Kateel in Balpa near here on Monday.
Kateel said that the dreams dreamt by Mahatma Gandhi regarding a model village were being realized by PM Modi. A sum of Rs 20 had been earmarked to develop Balpa. He sought everyone’s support to make the dream a success.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim gave a call to make the village free from alcohol and crime. He also wished that the natural bounty around the village be used for development.
Dr M Mohan Alva of the Alva’s institutions in Moodbidri that a survey would be conducted in the village and based on it all assistance regarding its needs would be given. Bhaskar Mohan Hegde of Selco group said that his firm would help in providing digital education in the schools of the village.
Sullia MLA S Angara, who presided over the function, said that Balpa was chosen because it had remained undeveloped for long. MLC and former state minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, ZP president Asha Thimmappa, ZP CEO P I Sreevidya, Srinivas University chancellor CA A Raghavendra Rao, Mangaluru University vice chancellor Prof K Byrappa, Laxminararyan of MRPL, MCF head Prabhakar and others were present on the occasion.
