Sullia: Bhimaguli is a small village under Pambettadi panchayat, surrounded by lush-green Bantamale forest. People around have a special place of honour and awe for the Lakshminarayana family.
The ill-fated family members were returning from a memorial service of a relative that was held in Virajpet earlier this week. Never did they imagine that cruel fate would hit them in such a harsh way. As they were returning home across the Sampaje ghat and had reached Kadapala in Kallugundi, a tipper vehicle collided head-on with their car on Wednesday.
Lakshminarayana and his son Avinash, who was at the wheel, died on the spot. Lakshminarayana’s wife Chinnamma died on the way to the hospital. Bhavya, wife of Avinash, is recovering in a hospital, while their young son, Abhinandan, is fighting for life in a hospital in Mangaluru.
Post-mortem examination of the bodies of Lakshminarayana, Chinnamma and Avinash was held the KVG hospital here on the very night and they were placed in the hospital mortuary.
The mortal remains were taken to their Bhimaguli residence on Thursday morning. Already large crowds had gathered there. There were tears and wails all around as the bodies were lowered down from the ambulance. Ganesh Bhimaguli, the youngest among the sons, lit the funeral pyre.
The common theme in the sentiments expressed by those who had gathered was that destiny should not have been so merciless to a family that was known around for their good deeds and was popular with everyone.
Breaking down as she spoke, zilla panchayat president Asha Thimmappa said that theirs was an ideal family. It was something unthinkable that such a fate had befallen a family which was very friendly and genial in nature.
