Sushma Swaraj helps M’luru Couple go on Honeymoon

Mangaluru: Who said you can’t be a tough-talking external affairs minister and a romantic at the same time? Sushma Swaraj has proven she’s both. Swaraj slammed Pakistan right and proper on July 24 when she said : The whole of India would like to tell Pakistani PM that the dream of ‘Kashmir becoming Pakistan’ will not be realized even at the end of eternity.” And yesterday, for the second time in 10-odd days, she also came to the aid of a newly married couple who were going on a honeymoon.

Sushma Swaraj proves that a minister’s work never ends, given how she takes to Twitter after hours to help people in need. In the past, minister Sushma has helped Indians stranded abroad, Indians kidnapped in foreign countries, saved unemployed Indians starving in Saudi Arabia, and many such instances. Here is yet another story, when a couple desperately needed help, the minister playing cupid came to their rescue.

Faizan Patel, a Mangaluru-based professional wedding photographer, now settled in Delhi, had his BBM education at St Aloysius College-Mangaluru and later did his Masters in Communication at Manipal Institute of Communication. Last December he got married to Sana Fatima Khan, and later settled in Delhi. They were planning on their honeymoon to Italy, but few days before their travel came to know that Sana’s passport had gone missing. Frustrated over the situation, Faizal tweeted on August 4, days before he and his wife were to go to Italy on their honeymoon, that his wife Sana Fatima Khan lost her passport. When his wife, Sana still had not found her passport, Faizal tweeted with a photo inside a plane with his wife missing next to him :

Faizan Patel @faizanpatel

Seems like I am travelling alone tonight via @TurkishAirlines. My wife has her passport misplaced. Fingers crossed that we find it soon.

Faizan Patel contacted Swaraj as his wife could not make it to their honeymoon – and she made sure his wife would be on the seat next to him. Patel elaborated his story, recounting how his wife lost her passport two days before they had to leave. He obviously didn’t like leaving his wife behind and took matters into his own hands, and onto Twitter. Sushma Swaraj saved the day (and their honeymoon) as she informed them about the new passport being en route to Patel’s wife, and her shortly being en route to their honeymoon.

Patel had the tickets, so he decided to go to Italy anyway, “without his honey” as he put it, hoping his wife would soon find her passport.

He tweeted from the plane, with a picture of his wife on the seat next to him. What was key here was that he tagged Minister Swaraj in this tweet. Faizan Patel @faizanpatel- This is how I am travelling with my wife as of now.@SushmaSwaraj @MEAIndia @MEAQuery 6:16 PM – 8 Aug 2016; And believe it or not, Swaraj replied.

Sana’s reaction was apt. She said she was speechless. @SushmaSwaraj @faizanpatel I’m speechless. Can’t thank you enough already. — Sana Fatima Khan (@SFK1986) August 8, 2016

It is learnt that ust 10-odd days ago, Swaraj came to the aid of another distressed Haryana couple. The husband, Tinu, is Indian, the wife, Jahna, is Kazakh. They met on Facebook and married soon after. But Jahna’s tourist visa was expiring and the couple was dreading their separation. A newspaper wrote about it and it caught Swaraj’s attention. Swaraj tweeted – in chaste Haryanvi, no less – saying “If you’ve filed a request to extend ‘bahu’s’ visa, send me a copy of the request.” Swaraj called Jahna ‘bahu’. That means daughter-in-law.

Now, after helping Faizan and Sana, she has added even more fans to her already large fan base. Until then, Sushma Swaraj, please keep being the Good Samaritan you are and helping people in distress – no matter how big or small it may be.
