Udupi: Neelaguli Padmanabha, who was previously identified in the Naxal movement, was arrested by the police in Udupi on Thursday, June 7 and produced before the JMFC court in Kundapur.

According to the District Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi, there were 2 non-bailable warrant cases (NBC) and 2 Long Pending Cases (LPC) against Neelaguli Padmanabha. The police have detained him in these cases.

On September 30, 2004, a group of 6 Naxalite men had damaged a Forest Department bridge near Hanja, Madamakki village under Amasebail station in Kundapur taluk. On June 24, 2005, a case was registered against Padmanabha for allegedly damaging 2 bridges belonging to the Forest Department.

The court issued a non-bailable warrant against Padmanabha as he did not appear before the court for hearing in the two cases. The police arrested him when he came to the local court in connection with a case and produced him before the Kundpaur JMFC court. The Court has sent him to 14 days judicial custody, said Nimbargi.
