Suspend Those Responsible for Torturing Quraishi – DDSHS

Mangaluru: “Those who are involved in the torture of Quraishi should be suspended from duty within 15 days. We respect Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar for his commendable job in the Mangaluru Commissionerate. At the same time, we request the police commissioner to punish those who had tortured Quraishi. If they will not be suspended within 15 days we will stage a protest in the coming days”, said the Convenor of the state committee of Dalita Damanithara Swabhimani Horata Samiti B R Bhaskar in a press meet held at Roshni Nilaya here on April 9.

Addressing the mediapersons B Bhaskar said, “On April 4, protesters from the PFI and other organizations were protesting peacefully in front of the Police commissioner’s office. In the presence of the Police commissioner, such incident should not have occurred. The protesters were badly beaten up, which the DDSHS condemn. Quraishi should be compensated and his medical expenses should be borne by the government”, he said.

Bhasker also said, “On March 21, Quraishi was taken into custody by the CCB police, which is clearly mentioned in the memo submitted to the court by the police before Quraishi was taken into custody. But they did not produce him before the court. According to the law, anyone who is arrested should be produced before the court within 24 hours of his arrest, but in Quraishi case, he was produced on March 27. If our demands will not be fulfilled within 15 days, we will intensify our protest and if any untoward incident occurs in the district the government and the police department will be directly responsible,” he warned.

Ganesh Kumar speaking on the occasion said, “Quraishi should be given compensation and the police who were involved in torturing Quraishi should be arrested. Recently in a Cobra Post, Capt Ganesh Karnik said, “60% of the police are RSS members”, which seems to be true now. Many police officers are working in Mangaluru since many years. Such officers should be transferred immediately”.

When asked about what kind of action the Samiti will take, Bhaskar said, “On April 16, all the Samiti members will meet in Bengaluru to decide on the next step in this case”.

When asked about the assault on ASI Aithappa, Bhaskar said, “Whoever has assaulted Aithappa should be punished.”

When asked why the protesters chose to gherao the police commissioner’s office, Bhaskar said, “The protesters were demanding justice but the police resorted to Lathi Charge”.

When asked about holding Mangaluru Chalo, Bhaskar said, “We will decide on April 16 depending on the developments of the case.”

Bengaluru Chalo

On April 14, we have organized Bengaluru Chalo to mark Ambedkar Jayanti. More than 160 organizations will take part in the Bengaluru Chalo, said Bhaskar.

The Dalita Damanithara Swabhimani Horata Samiti members Sikhandar Pasha, Raghuveer Suterpete and Ashok Konchadi were also present.
