Suu Kyi leaves for Nepal

Yangon: Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday embarked on an official visit to Nepal where she will attend the Asia Pacific Summit in Kathmandu, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said here.

Suu Kyi is making the trip at the invitation of Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, reports Xinhua news agency.

During her three-day trip, Suu Kyi is expected to meet Nepalese leadership and discuss matters of mutual interest.

Suu Kyi’s visit to Nepal is the first in her capacity as State Counsellor since June 2014 when she visited Kathmandu as the opposition leader.

The Asia-Pacific Summit 2018 is scheduled from Friday to December 3.

The summit will bring together heads of states and governments, lawmakers, eminent leaders, businessmen and leaders of civil society of the Asia Pacific region.

Suu Kyi’s trip follows that of President U Win Myint to Nepal in August on the occasion of the 4th Summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in the Nepalese capital.
