Suvarna Gopura Dedicated at Udupi Sri Krishna Temple with Religious Fervor
Udupi: The much-awaited dedication ceremony of the 100-kg golden tower for the inner sanctum of Sri Krishna Temple was held with religious fervor on June 6.
Thousands of devotees and Swamijis’ of over eight Maths witnessed the grand dedication programme on Thursday, June 6 morning. The eight Matadish of Sri Krishna Math led by Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Sri Vidyadheesha Swamiji of Paryaya Palimar Math performed Rajatha Kalashabhisheka to the golden tower.
Sri Vishwapriya Theertha (Senior Swamiji of Adamar Math), Sri Eshapriya Theertha (Junior Swamiji of Adamara Math), Sri Vidyavallbha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math, Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Sode Math, Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishnapuara Math, Sri Vishwasprsanna Theertha (Junior Swamiji of Pejawar Math) and Sri Vidya Rajeshwara Theertha (Junior Swamiji of Palimar Math) performed the religious rituals.
More than 100 kg gold has been used for the tower, in addition to the 300 kg of copper and 900 kg of silver. The Temple’s inner sanctum measures 2,500 sqft and 40 grams of gold has been used for each square feet of the total area. About Rs 32 crore has been spent for the golden tower.
Thin sheets of silver have been gold-plated for the purpose. Artisans say that the gold used in this form can be recovered. Experts from the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka in Surathkal have certified the quality of the gold. The names of the donors have been printed on the back of the gold and silver sheets.
Devotees across the country have liberally donated gold for the project. A team of skilled artisans (led by Venkatesha Shet) has crafted the tower in accordance with the architecture of the coastal area and on the resemblance of the golden tower of Lord Venkateshwara in Tirupati.
