Swacch Gram – Workshop for Panchayat officials and Elected representatives

Mangaluru: On the occasion of completion of 400 Swacch Mangaluru drives, a special workshop, “Swacch Gram” was organized at Ramakrishna Mission, Mangalore on 28th may from 10 am to 2 pm. Nearly 200 Panchayat officials and elected representatives actively participated in the workshop.

Pranesh Rao, Director, Abdul Nazeer Sab Institute of Rural development & Panchayat Raj, Mysuru inaugurated the workshop and spoke. He said, “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan owes its success for being a people’s movement. If it were a government programme it would not have seen the light of the day.

Participation by each and every individual and his commitment to cleanliness only can change the scenario where we can stand with our heads erect with pride from the present disgraceful sight. This also demands a responsible and proactive stance from journalism and the media which can highlight such small and yet meaningful and sincere attempts to change for the better. In this context, I congratulate the media in Mangalore for their contribution towards the success of the Abhiyan. The initiative by Mangalore Ashram is pivotal in this regard and is an apt model fit for emulation.”

Dr Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Sahyadri Group of Institutions, Mangalore who was the chief guest at the event spoke, “More and more workshops of such nature should be held. Mainly the youth have to be motivated to actively participate in Swachchata Abhiyan and the attitude of service has to be instilled in them. They learn more by seeing elders and teachers than by learning in the classes. Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan is an apt platform in this regard for the youth to participate in the nation building activity”.

Sri A K Sahoo, Director (Finance), MRPL, Mangalore lauded the efforts of Mangalore Ramakrishna Mission and said that MRPL is proud to be involved as patron in this initiative and that MRPL will be glad to support Ramakrishna Mission in its future programmes and expansion of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan to rural areas too.

Swami Jitakamanandaji, President of the Ashram also spoke on the occasion and thanked the citizens of Mangalore for their constant support and co-operation in the Abhiyan. He also thanked the media for their support week after week. He expressed his wish to expand the scope of the Abhiyan to rural areas too in the next phase if the ashram gets suitable support from the public and sponsors.

The inaugural programme was followed by Sessions by Swami Ekagamyanandaji, Kota Srinivas Poojary and Dr. M R Ravi, CEO of DK Zilla Panchayat. Captain Ganesh Karnik welcomed the guests and the gathering, Santosh Alva delivered the vote of thanks and compered the programme.
