Swami Dwarakanath Teertha Charitable Trust Launched in City
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Kumble Narasimha Prabhu- the Trustee of newly launched Swami Dwarakanath Teertha Charitable Trust-Mangaluru said, ” Shree Samsthan Gokarna Parthagali Jeevotham Math, a seat of religion and spiritualism, was established by Gowda Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) followers of Dwaitha philosophy of Madhwacharya, in the year 1475 AD. Shree Samsthan Gokarna Parthagali Math is celebrating its 542th anniversary and the Math now has 33 Shaka Maths spread all over India. The current Matadipathi HH Srimad Vidyadhiraja Teertha Sripad Vader Swamiji, ascended Gurupeeth in the year 1973 AD and is the 23rd pontiff of the Math.H.H Srimad Vidyadiraj Teertha Swamiji has taken up several developmental measures in the last 44 years like establishing of Trusts, renovated the shaka Maths, constructed new Maths, Kalyana Mantapas, Old Age home at Mangaluru and Panvel.”
“H.H Swamiji has established nearly nine trusts for serving the under privileged and B.P.L families of G.S.B Samaj as well as for promotion of Culture, Dharma, Adyathma and Ayurveda. One such trust established by H.H Swamiji is “Swami Dwarakanath Teertha Charitable Trust”. H.H DwarakanathTeertha Swamiji was 22nd pontiff of the Samsthan and the Guru of 23rd pontiff Srimad Vidyadiraja TeerthaSwamiji .H.H Dwarakanath Teertha Swamiji were a renowned scholar with deep insight into vedas, Sanskrit and Math parampara. H.H Vidyadiraj Teertha Swamiji has established a trust in the name of their Guru i,e “ Swami Dwarakanath Teertha Charitable Trust” with the headquarters at Parthagali Goa / Mumbai with branch in Bengaluru, and now the second branch at Mangaluru Gokarna Math.” added Prabhu.
He further said, ” The Trust is a Registered one and all donation for this Trust get Income tax exemption under sec 80G.The corpus of the Trust was formed by the excess collection of the historic Suvarna Chaturmasa of H.H Vidyadiraja Teertha Swamiji held at Mangaluru Gokarna Math in 2016 (July to October). The Mangaluru branch of the Trust has a good corpus in deposits and with the interest of the deposit amount, the trust wishes to carry on the following activities for GSB Under Privileged and BPL families, like To donate towards the funeral expenses of the needy G.S.B family members. (BPL And Low Income Groups); To donate towards Post pregnancy expenses for the needy GSB women with delivery in government hospital. (BPL And Low Income Groups).
“These two objectives will be the focus of the trust in the initial stage till March 2018. In the next phase the trust wishes to conduct and support the following activities, like Free Accident insurance for unorganized sector ie Self-employed, Small time employees of the of GSB Samaj. (BPL And Low Income Groups); Medical Camps, Health Camps Yoga Camps and Ayurvedic Camps; HR Training and IAS, IPS coaching camp for the GSB Students; Sandya Vandhana Coaching for new GSB BrahmonayanamVatu; Bhajan Camps for promoting young GSB Bhajan singers; and To conduct Satsang, Pravachana on Ramayana, Mahabharath, and Bhagavat during auspicious period like Karthika Masa, Shravana Masa, Vaishaka Masa etc by eminent Scholars.” said Narasimha Prabhu.
Also speaking on the occasion, Trustee S Prabhakar Kamath said, “Prajana Vasathi Nilaya (Behind Gokarna Math, Mangaluru) an active GSB Senior Citizen Home built at a cost of Rs.5 Crore, 5 years back is now running smoothly with nearly 40 inmates. Now in the first floor of this Poorna Prajna Vasathi Nilaya a GSB working women hostel is being setup with 10 rooms which can accommodate nearly 20 women with all facilities provided. Admission is now open for this GSB working women hostel. Three toilets at a cost of Rs One Lakh has already been built and donated by the Math to Government School Bejai Kapikad Mangaluru in the month of January 2017. The Trust has been formally inaugurated and the handing over of the cheques to the beneficiary along with donors and dignitaries of the GSB Samaj will be done soon”.
To a query put forth by a journo during the press meet, where he stated that GSB has not been helping or been involved in other community projects/events, for which S Prabhakar Kamath, the Trustee and also the MD of Ideal Ice Creams-Mangaluru replied saying, “That’s not true. Ideal’s Ice Creams has a mega-factory, and has also four retail outlets, and only 2% GSB community are employed, while the rest are from various other communities. Without looking into caste, religion or community basis, Ideal’s has sponsored many mega events hosted by various institutions/organizations. And for that matter, many banks in the City managed by GSB folks have also rendered their support to various other organizations in their projects/events. So, directly or indirectly GSB community has been associated or involved in various community happenings, and will continue to do so in future too”.
Trustee B Sripad Shenoy, S.Panduranga Acharya–Treasurer; S.Vittal.Shenoy – Secretary; and Basti Puroshotham Shenoy – Joint Treasurer, respectively of Gokarna Math Charitable Trust- Mangaluru were also present during the press meet.
