Swedish Band performs at St Joseph’s School CBSE-Bengaluru
Bengaluru : St Joseph’s School (CBSE), Bengaluru had organized a first of its kind Jazz Vocal Concert in collaboration with a Swedish band – ‘Olimpias Orkan’ – where Sweden meets India – at the School Auditorium on November 6, 2019. The Chief Guest of the day Dr Yogesh Kothari, Head of the Department of Cardiology at Jain Hospital graced the event. The organizers Arun and Daniel were instrumental in meticulous planning of the event.
Fr Rohan D’ Almeida SJ the Principal of the School welcomed the distinguished guest from Sweden. The Vice Principal Fr Balaraju SJ Honored the guest. The students were enthusiastic and cheered gleefully to the melodious performance of Jazz. It was truly mesmerizing to listen to the Swedish musicians- Matilda Andersson, Adrian Asling Sellius, Julia Wiklund, Rikard Wadman, Olimpia Dynarek, Bjorn Petersson, Julia Schabbauer and Anton Olsson. They were performing first time in India. Matilada Andresson was delighted to be in India. She was amazed to see the children enjoying the music. She made the children also to sing a song dedicated to all women. Children joined her with full gusto.
Important part of this Musical Concert was that they presented their musical rendition based on social issues of Gender Equality, Climate Change and Women Empowerment. Caroline one of the teachers says “It was an outstanding concert that the students enjoyed very much. The atmosphere was very intense and it gave students a glimpse of a different culture and a message to take along on the pressing issues present in our society.”
Ananda Priya, the Music Teacher felt that the Jazz Music concert performed by the Swedish band – Olimpias Orkan at SJS CBSE was truly magnificent. It was not just about music performance. Although Jazz music is not widely a go to genre of music for younger kids, the performance was totally in sync the band succeeded in leaving a positive imprint on the audience. The impeccable sax solos accompanied by phenomenal drums, piano and bass enthralled the students and the concert compelled them to dive deeper in to the depths of Jazz Music.
All of their songs are in Swedish and despite the language barrier, the magic in their music was felt and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Leon Miranda of Class IX says “I found the performance an outstanding one. I have listened to songs in English but entirely in Swedish was the first time. I was pleased when they asked us to join with them and sing along. They were kind and obliged our request and performed the song again. This filled me with even more joy. I loved their performance and I expect more of such performances line this in the future.”
A.T.Tejaswini Class IX student felt that the Jazz Band – Olimpias Orkan was one which kindled in us the love for music and an exposure to the talent of people of Sweden. Though the group was small, they were awesome. Jazz music is an intensified feeling of nonchalance. We also sang with them and they came up with a very good topic on climate
change and women empowerment. We enjoyed the show to the max. we thank our principal for giving this opportunity to witness such an awesome show at our school.
Antonette Mercy Class IX student of the opinion that “If music is a place, then jazz is a city”. We felt that as we were surrounded by the beautiful music of Olimpias Orkan. It was a wonderful exposure to a new form of music. We thoroughly enjoyed the show as we sang along with them. Their intention to raise awareness on Women empowerment and climate change was greatly appreciated. We thank our principal for giving us an opportunity to witness a great performance.
