Swift action by SP Sanjeev Patil, Traffic Police remove Shrill horns and book 40 cases
Udupi: Delivering on the promise of initiating steps to curb the horn menace causing inconvenience to the public a team led PSI Gopalkrishna, PSI Shekar and ASI Prakash together with staff Satish, Santosh and others, booked more than 40 cases against the bus operators for using high decibel horns in buses. Horns were seized and a fine of rupees 100 was imposed on the bus operators along with a warning.
During the phone in programme organized by the District Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil, senior citizens and the general public raised grave concern over the use of high decibel horns in the buses causing sound pollution and inconvenience to the public.
SP Sanjeev Patil delivering his promise acted tough against the bus operators, an operation was launched by the Udupi Traffic Police Station where buses were stopped near Govind Kalyana Mantapa and the police themselves checked for illegal horns fitted in the buses.
The horns were pulled out and cases were booked against the bus operators with a warning of not using such horns in future. Other cases on bike riders for the failure of wearing the helmet, failure in maintaining pollution control certificate were booked. College students came under the police scanner, where many students including the pillion rider were riding bikes without wearing helmets. A strict warning was also issued to students and fines were imposed on them.
PSI Gopalkrishna said that similar operations will be conducted at regular intervals.
The operation was well appreciated by the general public.
