Swiss audience ‘laughed’ at smoking disclaimers in ‘Miruthan’
Chennai, July 7 (IANS) Popular Tamil zombie thriller film “Miruthan” was screened at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland, but the audience laughed and “hooted the loudest” when they saw smoking disclaimer in the film, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who attended it, said.
The Jayam Ravi and Lakshmi Menon-starrer was screened on Wednesday, read a statement on the film festival’s official website.
Kashyap, whose latest film “Raman Raghav 2.0” had its Swiss premiere on Monday, took to Twitter on Thursday to share the response that “Miruthan” received during its screening.
“Film festival in Switzerland showing the Tamil Zombie movie, ‘Miruthan’. Guess where they laughed, hooted the loudest? Smoking disclaimers,” Kashyap tweeted.
Kashyap was recently in limelight when the controversial film “Udta Punjab”, which was produced under his banner Phantom Films, was asked by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to effect 89 cuts.
The “Gangs of Wasseypur” director then moved to Bombay High Court, which later ruled out 88 cuts from the Abhishek Chaubey directorial and ordered the CBFC to issue an A certificate to the film.
“Udta Punjab”, which starred Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, later got released on June 17 and received good response in theatres.
