Talk on “The Unspoken” held at St Aloysius College
Mangaluru : The Department of Sociology of St Aloysius College(Autonomous), Mangalore, launched “The Unspoken” on 30th July 2019 at the Sanidhya Hall. The program is a series of open forum discussions on issues that are a taboo to speak in private or public space and intends to give the youth a platform to speak without being judged or being judgmental.
The Principal, Rev. Fr. Praveen Martis, SJ, inaugurated the program by untying the ribbon from the human lips symbolically to speak the
unspoken. The discussion for the first of the series was on “Incest – Both Abusive and Consensual”. The panelists included Ms Sujatha Sukumaran (Sr. Coordinator, Advocacy and Integration Support at Enfold Proactive Health Trust, Bangalore) and Dr. Supriya Hegde (Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Fr. Mullers’ College, Mangaluru.
The program comprised helpful insights into the topic by the experts
and an open discussion and questions from the students. The students were also asked to put sensitive queries into the unspoken box anonymously which was later discussed and answered by the experts. It was attended by students and staff across disciplines from
under-graduate and postgraduate studies of the college.
