Mangaluru: DK Zilla Panchayat, Public Education Department in association with the Teacher’s day celebration committee South Zone, Celebrated Teacher’s day at the City Town Hall here on September 5.

The programme began with an invocation followed by the State Anthem. Deputy Director of Public Education Department Y Shivaramayya welcomed the gathering.

The programme was inaugurated by the District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais. Later flower petals were showered on the portrait of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishna. CD’s of two Short films “Iruvudonde Bhoomi” and “Jaladhara” were released by Minister Ramanath Rai.

Addressing the gathering Ramanath Rai said, “Dakshina Kannada is known as the education hub and Dakshina Kannada has its own identity. People of Dakshina Kannada are intellectuals. Teachers have played a vital role in making Dakshina Kannada an education hub. A Teacher’s profession is a noble profession and teachers have special respect in the society. The profession of a teacher is equal to accepting a religious vocation. If a teacher teaches moral values to the students and discipline, students will follow him/her. So teachers should be perfect in their responsibilities. To create a beautiful society teachers should mould the students accordingly.”

Ramanath Rai further said, “If we want to free the society from bondage we need to be educated. If the people in the society are educated, there will be development. Teachers are the pillars who strengthen the students to become assets of the country. Teachers should deliver value based education and instill good thoughts among the students. Nowadays we are seeing some anti-social elements creating differences in the name of religion. In this connection, teachers should teach the students the values of life as children are innocent and listen to whatever the teacher teaches. Teachers play a vital role in molding the students to be future leaders”.

During the Teacher’s day celebrations the district and state-level award winning teachers were felicitated with a shawl, garland, fruits and citation.
