Tenth Week of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan by RKM Successful

The tenth week of 40 cleanliness drives of the 400 Abhiyans being organized by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru took off on Sunday, the 18th December at 40 different locations in the city.

Cleanliness drives were held in about 40 places in and around Mangalore on 18th December under the aegis of Ramakrishna Mission, Mangalore. Symbolically the drives were flagged off at Ramakrishna Mission by Swami Satyajnanandaji of Chennai Ramakrishna Mission and Swami Nirbhayanandaji of Gadag Vivekananda Ashram. Swami Jitakamanandaji, Captin Ganesh Karnik, Dilraj Alva, Umanath Kotekar and several others were present on the occasion.

Teams of Sri Amba Maheshwari Bhajana Mandir, Sri Sharada Mahila Vrinda, Nivedita Balaga, Monkey Stand Friends, Jeppu Friends, Hindu Warriors team, St Agnes college students, inmates of Bhagini Samaj – about 8 team members were present during the occasion. After the inaugural programme, they took up the cleanliness drive in Mangala Nagar, Mangaladevi Car Street, Jeppu Market, Mulihithlu, Monkeystand, Yemmekere and several other areas.

Special features:

A road roller was lying in ruins for the past few years in front of Jeppu Park. Varnodara Dr Pradeep and his team of friends have created Installation Art on that roller making it a selfie spot. The roller was rusted and in tatters. It was painted and artwork was done on it. This piece of artwork is drawing several onlookers who are appreciating the artwork.

Kiran Gym Friends were preparing for the Abhiyan for the past three days in Kottara Chowki area. The mammoth pillars of fly over in Kottara Chowki area were bedecked with posters. The pillars were cleaned and repainted giving a nice face lift. With nice art on the pillars with the message, “Swacchata Abhiyan welcomes people to Mangaluru”.

• Team at Attavar cleaned the area surrounding Chakrapani temple and Attavar Katte. Devotees of Chakrapani temple and students participated in the drive.
• Students of Ganapathi P U College and high school cleaned both sides of Panje Mangesh Rao Road. They also painted Worli art on the compound walls of Ganapathi High school.

• Devotees of Sri Gokarna Math and public cleaned the area surrounding Raghavendra Math under the guidance of Naresh Kini.
• Students of St Aloysius College took up the drive at the Light House Hill Road. Councilor A C Vinayraj actively took part.
• Students of GFGC, Car Street cleaned the college campus. About 60 students under the guidance of Prof. Sheshappa Amin cleaned the campus.
• Team members of Art of Living cleaned the area near Sultan Battery. Under the leadership of Sadashiva Kamath they cleaned the bus shelter and installed a direction board.
• Team Vivek Members cleaned the area surrounding Canara School.
• Girls of Minority Hostel cleaned the Chilimbi area. Vittaldas Prabhu coordinated the team.
• Dakshina Kannada Havyaka Sabha members took up the cleanliness drive at Nanthur area. Both sides of the highway were cleaned. Roopa Bangera took an active part.
• Team Garodi members cleaned the Capitanio area. Small dumping yard has been converted into a beautiful garden and two bus shelters have been renovated and painted.

• Padil citizens cleaned the Padil circle area. Highway and roads leading to Mangalore were cleaned. Udaychandra K P coordinated the team.
• Employees of Sriram Transport Finance Corporation cleaned the AB Shetty circle area. Sharatchandra, DG lead the team.
• Konchady Friends carried out the cleanliness work below Kuntikan fly over. They cleared the pillars off posters, cleaned them and painted them. They also carried out cleanliness work in Kuntikan area.
• Team Swacch Kavoor members cleaned the premises and surroundings of Kavoor Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple. About 60 members actively participated in the drive. Sudhakar Kavoor coordinated the team.

• Members of Matridhama team and the public of Landlinks area cleaned the neglected park and play ground in that area. All the play items and facilities were painted and given a face lift enabling the children to make use of them.
• A team led by Shubhoday Alva cleaned the Yeyyadi main road. Employees of Shalimar paints joined this Abhiyan.
• Sri Parmjyothi Manava Seva Samiti members and members of Sri Veeramaruti Vyayama Shala took up the drive in Thokkottu area. Vedith Kumar coordinated the team.

• Devotees of Sri Kshtera Kolya Math carried out the drive in Kollya rea. Madhusudan Aiyyar and Seetharam coordinated the team.
• Several groups of volunteers took up the cleanliness drives in Madur, Kadri, Shivabagh, Yekkur, Alake, Hampankatta, Bejai church road, Goodshed Road, Derebail, Urwa market, Merlapadavu etc.
