Mangaluru: One of the great benefits in pursuing your career in technical field rather than burning your midnight oil to excel in your college degree or post-graduate career, is that you have your job ready when you complete your ITI course-whereas when you graduate in degree college or postgraduate you will have to go around searching for a good job, which may take months or could be years. So, would you prefer to do your Graduate and Post Graduate studies, and then after graduating wait a long time to get a better and good paying job” or Would you prefer to pursue your career in technical/mechanical field, and once you complete your training/course, when there is a job waiting for you at a reputed company? I bet you would opt for the latter to pursue your career in the tech field and anticipate a bright future ahead. Do you know that Electricians, Plumbers, Air Condition mechanics, Automobile mechanics and those trained and qualified in any technical field earn big money than those in the medical field in European countries?

A licensed plumber/electrician or an AC Mechanic earns nearly $ 70-80 thousand {nearly Rs 5,360,000} per year in the USA, which even a medical professional doesn’t make that much. And for that matter, students who had got training in various technical fields from SAITI have been earning a good salary in India, and quite a few are employed in Gulf and Europeans countries making big bucks and enjoying their lives. So don’t you think that One or Two years training in the technical field is much better than slogging and browsing through books and burning that midnight oil in order to pass your exams and then go job hunting? There is lots of scope for those trained in the technical field, where jobs are ready, and you can make a good living. What’s your choice? Think twice before you step into your next career after SSLC or PUC.

Yes, technological advancement is happening at very rapid pace. Thus continuous exposure and adaptation to the changing environment is inevitable. Currently, there exists a wide gap between the skills attained by a student and the actual industrial requirements. As a result, even though jobs are available in the industries, unemployment problem exists among youth. If the training programme is designed so that the students acquire the skills which are required by the industry, he/she can get employed easily.

Realizing this need, St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute had entered into joint ventures with the reputed companies in various sectors. One of them is a Tie-up venture with M/S Hyundai Motor India Limited, a leading car manufacturer. This kind of Tie-up with Hyundai Motors is the first and only one in Karnataka. As part of the Training Methodology-during this training programme, students of Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV) trade go through a well structured, systematic training process. Under this venture, the students will be imparted Hyundai technical training in relation to repair and servicing of Hyundai vehicles. This training is given along with the regular curriculum of NCVT. Under the successful completion of the training, students are recruited by the dealer network of M/s Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

Under this tie-up venture, third graduation day was celebrated on 23rd June 2018 in St Aloysius ITI. The students were awarded the certificates from Hyundai Motor India Ltd. Handing over the certificates, G. Sathish Kumar from Hyundai training centre said, “We have this tie-up venture with St Aloysius ITI as a part of our CSR initiative. It has been a very fruitful and successful collaboration with St Aloysius ITI. The students of this institution stand out from the crowd due to their workmanship, discipline, knowledge and dedication. This institution never compromises on the quality of education. This venture has created a win-win situation for the company as well as the institution”. He thanked the Management of St Aloysius ITI for the support extended in the successful implementation of the training programme. He also felicitated the trainers- Karthik from M/s Advaith Hyundai and Robin Vas from St Aloysius ITI.

Certificates were also distributed to the students of ‘Centre of Excellence’ on successful completion of their course. ‘Centre of Excellence’ or COE is a special course designed to impart skills in multiple disciplines to the students. Multi-skilled technicians are in very much demand in the modern industries. In COE course, students are trained in Refrigeration and air-conditioning, electrical, welder and plumber trades.

The Chief Guest of the programme, Sumith Rao, proprietor of M/s Olympus Refrigeration, and also an alumnus of St Aloysius College, addressing the students said, “I am an alumnus of St Aloysius and my school days are still fresh in my memory. This is a great college. Any college is not for a particular caste or religion. All colleges belong to all religions and it is particularly true about St Aloysius. Technology is driving the present world and youth should learn to make the positive use of technology and mass media communication. If one wastes his time in unproductive use of social media like WhatsApp, he cannot build his road to success. On the other hand, the social media can be an effective tool in achieving success if used productively.

“The future belongs to the people with technical abilities. We have a number of engineers or diploma holders than needed by the industry. In fact, the industry needs a large number of ITI graduates, but their supply is limited. In very near future, we will see ITI graduates earning much higher than Engineers/medical/Business graduates. Values, honesty and ethics are needed for building a long-term successful career”, added Rao. The president of the programme Rev Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ- Rector of St Aloysian Institutions congratulating the students on their successful completion of the course said, “In our institutions we not only give academic education, we also give them life skills. As a potter uses both his hands to make a pot- one hand to shape the inner part and the other to shape the outer part, we too need to have the inner character built with values and outer life rooted in service of others. Only then, we would be able to live a meaningful and fruitful life.” He thanked the parents for entrusting them to the institution to shape their future and asked the students to take care of their parents, especially when they reach their old age.

Also speaking during the occasion, the Director of the institution Fr Eric Mathias SJ said, “We train our students to be the best in their respective fields as well as their life. Punctuality, Generosity in work and being passionate about whatever one does creates success. Our students are the best of the lot and we are sure those who recruit our students for their firms will definitely get benefited by their character, commitment and discipline. Our students are excelling in their careers and we have plenty of success stories to share. Not only excelling in their studies, our students are very caring towards the society, by showing their love and concern to the needy. You need to be Kind, Generous, Compassionate, and have patience. You also need to show your love and care towards the elders. It’s sad to hear that DK has been graded very low in elders abuse”.

“Once you graduate, you shouldn’t ignore your parents and also your teachers-they are the ones who were responsible for your achievements. You should also visit old age homes when you get time, and share some time with them- it will make a big difference in their lives. Elders need company and someone to talk to them. It’s sad to note that when you visit many of the old age homes, the folks are depressed and have tears in their eyes, being lonely. So matter how much money you make, always respect and be grateful to your parents and respect the elders. Develop the qualities of compassion, love and care towards others. Best of luck in your career and endevours”, added Fr Eric Sj.

Job offer letters were distributed to the students by Ganesh Prasad- General Manager, M/s Kanchana Hyundai and Sukesh P- Service Manager, M/s Advaith Hyundai. Vincent Mendonsa- Principal of the institution extended a cordial welcome to all and Roshan Dsouza- Vice Principal proposed vote of thanks. Other dignitaries on the dais were Sunil Kumar- Hyundai regional team; Geoff- a volunteer from United Kingdom and Romius Dsouza- Training Officer of the institution. Robin Vas compered programme very professionally. The formal function was followed by a cultural programme.
