Human tendency is to build dependencies in their relationships-hoping that they we will always have someone to cling onto, when the going gets tough. Though this is the essence of almost all our relationships-to need and to be needed by others, most of the times, this very factor works against us.
We build our expectations on someone ‘being there’ so often, that if things dont go the way we planned, we get extremely upset and all hell breaks loose. We delve into depression and tell ourselves, that this is just a bad phase which will go away.
The truth, however, is far from realisation-that we have forgotten to ‘ be there’ for ourselves. We have forgotten to build impenetrable walls within ourselves towards everything that tries to break us. We have placed our hopes in other human beings who obviously have let us down, for we are all human after all.
The best cure, for most problems is described beautifully by Mariah Carey’s song ‘Hero’. It goes like this:-
"There’s a Hero
If you look inside your heart, You don’t have to be afraid of what you are..
There’s an answer, if you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know, will melt away…
And then a Hero comes along, with the strength to carry on,
And you cast your fears aside, and you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong,
And you’ll finally see the truth, that a hero lies in you…"
