Theater Plays a Crucial Role in Social Transformation – Fr Denis D’Sa

Udupi: Rev Fr Denis D’Sa, the parish priest of St Anne’s Church Thottam, emphasized the significant role theater has played in bringing about social transformation. Speaking at a special event called “Kattala Haadu” on Saturday, D’Souza noted that theater has been questioning those in power since pre-independence days.

Fr D’Sa drew inspiration from historical figures such as Jesus Christ, Basavanna, Buddha, and Kanakadasa, who raised their voices against injustice and questioned religious and political leaders. He encouraged the audience to follow in their footsteps and promote peace, love, harmony, tolerance, sacrifice, and spirituality.

Fr D’Sa emphasized that everyone has the right to ask questions and that in a democracy, every citizen has the right to question the ruling party. He encouraged the audience to exercise this right and promote critical thinking.

During the event, honors were given to Well-known Swimmer Eshwar Malpe and Theater Artist Nadamani Nalkuru, who have made significant contributions to promoting social change and inspiring others.

The event featured a two-and-a-half-hour program presented by Nadamani Nalkuru, which included philosophical verses, poetic works of the saints, a letter written by Abraham Lincoln, and emotional songs by G.S. Shivarudrappa, along with poetry from the new generation.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Sunil Fernandes, Vice President of the Management Committee of St. Annes Church, and Ramesh Thingalaya from the Samanvaya Sarvadharama Sauharda Samithi. Lavina Fernandes hosted the program and delivered the vote of thanks.
