Theft of Gold Ornaments in Marriage Halls – Two Arrested

Mangaluru: The Konaje police have arrested a woman in Kodi, Ullal on December 27 in connection with the theft of gold ornaments in various marriage halls.

The police have also arrested the jeweler who was buying the stolen gold ornaments from the woman.

The arrested have been identified as Minnath (39), a resident of Kodi Ullal and Yogish Acharya from Madoor.

According to the Konaje police, on December 26, Zohara and Ayisha had filed a complaint that on December 25, gold anklets from the legs of their children were stolen. When enquired with the hall authorities, they said that during the weddings many children have lost their gold ornaments. The Ullal police gathered all the necessary information and arrested Minnath from Ullal.

During interrogation, she revealed that she was attending marriages in Unity hall at Thokkottu, Deralakatte BCC Hall and Natekal Al-Madina hall. There she was waiting for the mothers to leave their children alone or sometimes even when the mother was holding the child, Minnath was relieving them of gold anklets and chains and vanishing from the spot.

The police have recovered 60 grams of gold ornaments from Minnath’s possession. The police have also arrested the goldsmith Yogish who was buying gold from Minnath believing that they will not be caught. 23 grams of gold ornaments also recovered from Yogish’s possession.

Both the accused were produced before the court. Further investigation is on.

The operation was carried out by Police circle inspector Ashok, PSI Srikala, Sukumaran, Vinayak, Shivaprasad, Pradeep, Sumalath, Vinod and others.
