This Girl Got Talent! Mount Carmel Student ‘Putani Poorvi’ enters ‘Dancing Star Jr’ Finals

Mangaluru: Talk about girls having amazing talents- this 10 year old girl studying in Vth standard at Mount carmel Central School-Mary Hill, Poorvi K Rao aka ‘Putani Poorvi” has not only brought name and fame and has made her parents proud and happy, she has also made her school management and teachers; and the citizens of Mangaluru proud. This girl is so stinkin’ cute, has amazing dancing talents and her expressions are unbelievable. According to the ‘Dancing Star Junior’ show producer, the show judges never expected her insane amount of stage presence and her devastatingly impressive dancing style. The judges had no other choice than to select Poorvi as one of the five finalists in the Colors Kannada “Dancing Star Junior” show to be held on 12 September. Poorvi is the only girl among other four boys in the Top 5 finalists.

With “Dancing Star 2” giving the much deserved success to Colors Kannada – the “Dancing Star Junior” followed close on its heels airing from 11th of July, with the finals being held on 12 September 2015. The telecast of Dancing star Junior is aired on Colors Kannada channel every Saturday and Sunday at 9 to 10.30. 12 children are taking part in this contest. The judges have remained same of ‘Dancing star 2’- V Ravichandran, Priyamani and Mayoori who have stolen hearts in ‘Dancing Star 2’ that was billed as judges driven show are occupying the chairs on this Junior dancing show. The Dancing star 2 participants Anand, Anupama and Shamitha are grooming the children on their thoughts in batches.

For her achievement in making it to the finals in the “Dancing Star Junior” show, Putani Poorvi was honoured during a programme at MCCS amidst her school principal, teachers, her class and school mates, and TV crew members namely, Yeshawanth- Assistant Producer of the dance show, Diwaker-Cameraman, Bryony Pereira- Marketing Manager, Kiran- Camera assistant, and Shanker-Audio, all of Kannada Colors TV Channel. Poorvi Rao, aged 10, is the daughter of Kumaraswamy Rao- a Senior Manager at Karnataka Bank HO- Mangaluru, and Asha Kumaraswamy- a Psychologist at St Agnes Teachers Training Institute-Mangaluru. V J Poorvi K Rao, youngest V J of coastal Karnataka, known as “Putani – Batani” of Mangaluru is seen dancing in Colors Kannada’s dance reality show “Dancing Star Junior” which has started from July 11th, 2015. She is one among the 12 contestants selected from more than 5000 children across Karnataka.

This Multi Talented girl and “Kid Prodigy of Kudla” and the “pride of Mount Carmel Central School” is a bundle of talent in Dancing, Fancy dress, Singing, Anchoring, Yoga etc. She started her dance life at the age of two and half years and won the hearts of many people. She has given more than 400 stage shows (dance, singing, anchoring, fancy dress, yoga etc) across the country, and also abroad and won many prizes and awards.

Few of her outstanding awards/achievements are : Winner of “Champion of Champions trophy – 2010” at BIG Bazaar, in the talent hunt event conducted by Future Group; Crowned as J C Princess – Mangalore 2010 in JC Prince, Princess modeling contest at Town Hall, Mangalore on the occasion of JCI week – 2010; Awarded as “LITTLE MASTER MANGALORE – 2011” at BIG Bazaar for her all-round ability, during May 2011; Got the 1st place in National level Krishna Vesha Sparde(Individual) & 2nd place in National level “Yashodha – Krishna” Sparde (along with her mother) at Kalkura Prathistana at Kadri Temple in August 201; Receiver of “Young achievement award” for the year 2011-12 from Lions Club, Mangalore; SAMAYA TV has selected her as a “Super Kid” and telecasted half an hour programme on her achievements; Bagged the “Yoga Kala Chetana” award during the South India level yoga competition conducted by Shivashakthi Yoga Kala Kendra, Bengalure in January 2015; Awarded with “Navilugari Prashasthi”, a state level award by Navilugari Pratishtana, Navalugund, Uttara Karnataka, in February 2015.

Poorvi got the major break when she was selected as the TOP 12 contestant in E TV Kannada’s Dance reality Show “DHEE – Juniors during 2012. Here her performance was well acclaimed by all the judges. Her dance performances in Western, Bollywood, Classical, Semi classical, Katak, Thapanguchi etc, reached her to the final stage of the show and recognized herself in the list of top 5. She has hosted the programme called “Wonder Kid” in Kasthuri Vahini, a State channel for around 4 months. She is the first child Anchor from Mangaluru to host a full fledged programme in state channel. It is also a matter of pride that she had also given a international show at Kuwait on the occasion of 29th Kannada Rajotsava celebration on 8th November, 2013.

Mangalore Music & Cultural Association, Mangalore Productivity Council, Samatha Balaga- Mangalore, Shastri Pratistana, Kulai, Lions Club, Mangalore, Subramanya Sabha Sadana, Mangalore, Ocean Friends club, Akasha Bhavana, Mangalore, Kadri Friends, Mangalore etc had recognized her talents and honored her for her achievements. Presently Poorvi is learning Bharatanatyam in “Bharatanjali” Kottara from Sridhara Holla and Vidhushi Srimathi Pratima S Holla; Western dance at “Boys Zone Dance Academy” from Kishore Kumar; and Yoga from Yogaratna Gopalakrishna Delampady.

Mount Carmel Central School Principal Sr Melissa AC said, ” Poorvi is a joy and pride of our school. She is multi-talented girl, and has brought many laurels to school in various field of her talents. Her entering the finals in the “Dancing Star Junior” show is indeed a pride for our school, her classmates, teachers, her parents and her dear and near ones. Words can express how much we are all overwhelmed at this achievement of Putani Poorvi. Her best friend at School, Varsha Rai studying with Poorvi in Vth std said, ” I am so happy that my best friend has made it to the finals. I from the beginning of the show knew that Poorvi will make it to the finals, because I have seen her talents in the past. Being the only girl among the other four boys in the finals is indeed a pride for us all girls. I am very much confident that my best friend will win in the finals, and win big prizes. I hope she will take me with her to Australia when she wins the big cash and Australia trip prizes. I feel proud to be her friend”.

Kumaraswamy and Asha K Rao, parents of Poorvi said, ” It’s always a joy when your child comes out in flying colors in academic and co-curricular activities. Poorvi had brought us immense joy and fame through her multi-talented performances. We encourage her and support her in her co-curricular activities and her talents.
