Those Accepting Gandhiji as their Icon, have Failed to Follow his Teachings– Ex IPS Officer Annamalai
Kundapur: “Truth and non-violence were two major gifts preached by Mahatma Gandhi, which helped to gain freedom. In the present days wherein the moral values are declining, the preaching of Mahatma Gandhi holds more relevant” said former IPS officer of Karnataka K Annamalai, during a key-note address on the theme – “Gandhi 150 – Ishwar Allah Tero Naam “at The sixth edition of Cartoon Habba (Cartoon Festival), a festival celebrating the World of Caricatures and Cartoons organised by well-known Cartoonist Sathish Acharya at Kalamandira Kundapura on November 24.
Speaking further he said, “Emotional relationships in society are fading and communal harmony is under threat. Everyone is accepting Mahatma Gandhi as their Icon but failed to follow his moral values. Without self-reliance, you can never be consistently happy. And even though the purpose of life is not happiness in my opinion, being happy is still something that’s important to us. Mahatma Gandhi has promoted self-reliant in his freedom struggle. The vision behind the movement was to make people self-reliant which ultimately led to fearlessness. The basic philosophy behind the movement was to empower people with technology so that they became fearless. Mahatma Gandhi played a crucial role in the emancipation of women in India by inspiring and encouraging them during the freedom struggle”.
” Mahatma Gandhi had advocated for maintaining cleanliness. People should be educated on sanitation and stop littering in public places. Apart from this, the Gandhian model of development was inclusive and is much needed for today’s life. People should spread love and affection and help their fellowmen. Gandhiji has contributed immensely for the national integrity of the country and one should tread his path to uphold the dignity and integrity of the country. The dedication and commitment shown by Mahatma Gandhi to end the British rule in India, should be the model for the youths to fight against corrupt practices” added Annamalai.
The theme of this event this year was “Gandhi 150 – Ishwar Allah Tero Naam” – and cartoons on Mahatma Gandhi will be displayed at the three days long festival. Kannada actor and director Rishabh Shetty inaugurated the event. Veteran artists and cartoonists VG Narendra, Surendran, Power Lifter Vishwanath Ganiga were felicitated on the occasion. Film Director Yakoob Khader Gulwady, Cartoonist Sathish Acharya and others were present.
