Those Oppose Cremation of COVID-19 Victims Should be Punished – Congress
Mangaluru: “With the first casualty for COVID-19 in the district on April 19, the body was taken to the only electric crematorium in Boloor for cremation. Without proper knowledge of the disease, people in Boloor area protested against cremating the COVID-19 victim. Every human body should be respected and buried/cremated, according to his/her religion. On April 23, when a 75-year-old woman died of COVID-19, her body was taken to Pachanady for cremation. Why was her body taken there, when we have an electric crematorium in Boloor? Whose decision was it to take the body to Pachanady? Why could the district administration not take a firm decision of cremating the COVID-19 bodies?, questioned the Congress delegation who met the Deputy commissioner at her office on April 25.
Former minister Ramanath Rai brought to the notice of the DC the recent incident at Pachanady, where the body of the 75-year-old woman was not allowed to be cremated by the locals along with the MLA. The delegation urged the DC to take action against the MLA. The District administration should have a clear policy in cremating the COVID-19 victims and should announce it. Those opposing the cremation of COVID-19 victims at the Boloor electric crematorium should be punished.
MLC Ivan D’Souza brought to the notice to the DC about the illegal passes issued in her name for the construction of buildings. The delegation urged the DC to take strict action against those involved in issuing illegal passes to carry out construction work. Ivan also questioned whether the district administration was operating from the City Centre or DC office?
Illegal passes in the name of the DC are issued for the construction of buildings in the city, and the DC was not aware of it when the district Congress leaders brought it to her notice.
The Congress leaders suggested the district administration to allow and assist private hospitals in treating COVID-19 patients. DC Sindhu Roopesh assured of action.
The delegation was led by former District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai. MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLA J R Lobo, District Congress President Harish Kumar, District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai and Taluk Panchayat President Mohammed Monu were also present.
