Those who Criticize Freedom Fighters are Traitors – Rai During ’76th Quit India Anniversary

Mangaluru: To mark the 76th “Quit India Movement”, a March organized by the Congress party workers was flagged off from Light House Hill Road on August 9.

All the party workers along with the leaders dressed in White and marched from the Light House Hill Road to Town Hall.

The district Congress President Harish Kumar welcomed the gathering.

Addressing the gathering Former District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai said, “The DK district Congress has organized the “Quit India Movement” march to mark the 76th anniversary of the “Quit India Movement”. This is to bring awareness among the people about the sacrifices made by Gandhiji and other freedom fighters for the country. Many people who do not know about the Quit India movement are criticising the freedom fighters for the sacrifices they have made, they are the real traitors. Those who love the country and respect our freedom fighters are the real patriots. If people stand on the road and shout, “Bharat Matha Ki”, they cannot become patriots, in fact, we need to understand the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and respect them.”

Ramanath Rai further said, “We have seen Gandhi as an old man but when he was young he had started the protest campaigns on behalf of Indians in South Africa which helped him to hold such campaigns to get justice. Gandhiji even changed his attire to work for the poor people so that he could be identified as one among them. But the opposition is criticising Gandhiji and others who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of this country. We now see the opposition party announcing various schemes which are limited only to slogans. The price for cooking gas has doubled but people are not raising their voice. The BJP had promised of bringing back all the black money but has failed to do so. The BJP government has waived the loan of rich businessmen but has forgotten to waive the loan of the farmers. The BJP government is only for the rich and corporate world and not for the poor or for the farmers. This time we need to bring Congress to power in the country. I would also like to thank the Congress party workers for organizing this wonderful programme to mark the 76th Quit India Movement”.

Prof B Shivaram Shetty briefed on the “Quit India Movement” on the occasion. Former MLA J R Lobo delivered the vote of thanks. Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde compered the programme.

Former Minister Abhaychandra Jain, former MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Mayor Bhaskar K, District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, MLC Ivan D’Souza, deputy Mayor Mohammed Kunjathbail, Senior Congress leaders Ibrahim Kodijal, Suresh Ballal, Mahabala Marla, Purushotham Chitrapur, Vishwasdas and others were also present.
