Mirpur (Bangladesh), Aug 2 (IANS) Rain has frustrated efforts to resume play in the last cricket Test between Bangladesh and South Africa here on Sunday.

An inspection was performed by the fourth umpire after play in the first session of the fourth day could not be resumed due to wet outfield, affected by overnight rain and morning drizzle, reports bdnews24.com.

The ground staff were preparing the field after rain abated around 9:45 a.m. at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. But rain returned to force play to be called off at 1:05 p.m.

Bangladesh team trained after arriving at the ground around 11:30 a.m. The South Africans arrived half-an-hour later, just before it started raining again.

Play for the whole of second and third day was washed out without a ball being bowled due to rains under influence of cyclone Komen.

Bangladesh were 246/8 in their first innings after opting to bat at the end of the first day’s play. The hosts are looking to Nasir Hossain, who is unbeaten on 13, to take them to a decent total.

The weather had also played spoilsport in the drawn first Test in Chittagong. Only 221 overs were bowled as rain curtailed play on the second and third days before washing out the last two days.
