Three Killed on Spot as Ambulance Collides with a Tanker at Kota
Udupi: An ambulance, which was transporting a patient to KMC hospital-Manipal, collided with a tanker, killing three persons on the spot, at National Highway 66 Manoor under Kota Police Station limits on Friday late night.
The police identified the dead as patient Ullas Talekar (50), Ashok (54) and Shailesh Kamalakar (39). Saritha, Aravind and ambulance driver Raghavendra were injured in the incident. Rash and negligent driving by driver Raghavendra is said to be the reason for the accident. The driver, driving recklessly, lost control over the ambulance and hit the divider before crashing into the truck. The ambulance overturned before hitting the oncoming tanker.
The ambulance with the patient Ullas Talekar was speeding from Karwar to Mangaluru. Talekar was suffering from jaundice.
The police and locals had a tough time in saving the injured persons from the mangled remains of the ambulance. Udupi DySP P Jayashankar, Brahmavar Circle Inspector Srikanth rushed to the spot. The injured were admitted at KMC, Manipal and Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.
A case has been registered in Kota police station.
