And for Lunch or Dinner at Rs 10 on Mon : White Rice, Veg Sambar and Curd Rice (WRVSCR) or Tomato bath & Curd Rice; Tue : WRVSCR or Chitranna & Curd Rice; Wed: WRVSCR or Vangi bath & Curd Rice; Thurs: WRVSCR or Bisibele Bath & Curd rice; Fri: WRVSCR or Menthya Pulao & Curd Rice; Sat: WRVSCR or Puliyogare & Curd rice; and Sun: WRVSCR or Veg Pulao & Curd Rice.
Mangaluru: Now you can have three meals a day at Rs 25- Breakfast @ Rs 5, Lunch and dinner @ Rs 10 each. While in Tamil Nadu they have “Amma Canteens”, started by the CM J Jayalalitha, in Karnataka as loyal tribute to late PM Indira Gandhi, Karnataka’s beloved CM had started “Indira Canteens” and now five have today open in Mangaluru and DK. People in the city can now have breakfast at Rs 5 and lunch or dinner at Rs 10 at the Indira Canteens. The City’s Indira Canteens are part of the 247 Indira Canteens the government planned to set up across the state. In fact, the government decided to open six canteens in Mangaluru city based on city’s population of 5,93,291, however, one of the six canteens sanctioned for Mangaluru opened in Ullal, which is the hometown of minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs U T Khader.
The Indira Canteen set up at Urwa Store near Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) office has Master Kitchen to cook food for all the five canteens. Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) have constructed buildings for Indira Canteens at five places in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 2.97 crore. It may require nearly Rs 1 crore for the maintenance of the canteens in the city. While the government will sanction 30% of the maintenance cost, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will have to bear the additional expenses. A canteen in a town, where the number of population is between 45,000 and 1 lakh, will be serving food for three times for 500 people at a nominal rate fixed by the government. If the population is below 45,000, the canteens will serve food for up to 300 people every day.
The ‘Indira Canteen’ near Nehru maidan opposite Lady Goschen Hospital was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon by Minister Ramanath Rai, along with Minister U T Khader; MLC Ivan D’souza; MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil; MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer; DC Sasikanth Senthil; MLA J R Lobo; Suresh Ballal- MUDA Chairman; Rajaneesh-MCC Deputy Mayor; among NCC corporators and Officials. Minister Rai also unveiled the plaque, followed by lighting of the lamp, which was then followed by formal stage programme. MCC Commissioner welcomed the gathering, followed by speech by Minister U T Khader, where he said, “This project of CM Siddaramaiah is a dream come true for him.Though our party manifesto does not promise loan waiver and opening of Indira Canteens, chief minister Siddaramaiah has taken the initiatives keeping in mind the welfare of poor in the state. The canteens, named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, were unveiled on August 16, 2017 by Congress President Rahul Gandhi with an aim to make Karnataka “hunger free.”
“The canteens are currently operational in over 150 civic wards, with 12 kitchens catering to them. With a budget of Rs 185 crore, the government in October 2017 had decided to open 246 Indira Canteens in all the 30 districts of the state and their sub-districts. The daily operating cost of all canteens in the state was estimated to be Rs 29 lakh, with monthly expenditure of Rs 9 crore. These canteens have been a welcome move for several low income group people. Karnataka is the only state giving free food for its people, you will never find this in Gujarath. These canteens will serve food to the hard working people of this city, right from workers to students. We can call this as ‘Poor Man’s Canteen’, where the low income and poor class people can benefit a lot” added UT Khader.
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister Ramanath Rai said, ” This unique project started in Bengaluru, has now entered this coastal city to cater to the hunger needs of the poor class people. Among the many projects undertaken by the state government this is an unique and needed project by the people. Rich are always rich and can manage to live on their own, but the poor who always remain, but with no one to help them-it is where the govt comes to their rescue- and now we have offered them food at cheap prices, so that they don’t go hungry. Karnataka is the only state which cares for the people irrespective of caste or creed, when compared to other states, especially Gujarath? Even though the Central govt has put up hoardings of offering financial aid etc-but these are all fake promises by PM Modi and his govt. You need to trust CM Siddaramaiah’s govt, if you need help”
MLC Ivan D’souza addressing the gathering said, “With an aim to reach out to the poorer sections of the society, Congress government had in the budget made proposal of setting up subsidized food canteens. CM Siddaramaiah made a reference about the canteens, calling it “Namma Canteens” as mentioned in the budget speech. However, Congress legislature party demanded that these canteens should be named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and here we have five of them in our district. Every single poor person in this City will feel that in the state of Karnataka, under Siddaramaiah government, “I simply cannot go hungry”. That is the vision of the Indira canteen. Today is a historic day in City our fight against hunger and malnutrition with Indira Canteens being launched here. I am confident that these canteens will have excellent quality food, excellent hygiene and people walking out of this canteen must feel that they not only had safe food, but tasty food. I think we owe this to every single citizen,” 
Madhu, environmental Engineer at MCC compered the programme, Hundreds of people had already queued to get the taste of the breakfast items, after buying the tokens- and they all had happy faces, to feast on a sumptuous breakfast at a very low price, unbelievably compared to other eateries in town. Bon Apetit! While you have an Idli, I will savour the taste of Puliyogare, today?

Wish you all the best. Anna daana shreshtam. Providing 3 meals a day is danam only these days. You can hardly buy one dosa with that money. Does the govt have to bear the deficit? Even so it is good for labour class people, auto rickshaw drivers, college students and small income population.
I over estimated the no of votes Ashraf Bhai can get with the green flag. I am afraid with this canteen business now he can settle for 3000.
