The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), traced the Improvised explosive device (IED) in the bag and are investigating”, said police commissioner, Dr Harsha, to the journalists at the airport premises here on January 20.
Speaking to the mediapersons Dr Harsha said, “According to the CCTV footage a middle-aged man had left the bag at the ticket counter in the Mangaluru airport. The man came by an auto-rickshaw and left the bag containing possible explosive substances near the ticket counter. The CISF personnel spotted the bag as they have suspected it to a threat as per the security protocol”.
Dr Harsha further said, “As they grew suspicious about the object they immediately informed the Mangaluru police. The bomb detection and disposal team immediately rushed to the spot. After the initial assessment when their suspicion grew that it could be a potential explosive device they cordoned the area. After the initial protocol was followed the suspected object was contained in a vehicle. The bomb detection and disposal squad are carrying out the operation towards the final disposal of the explosive device”.
Dr Harsha also said, “Based on the complaint of the CISF, the Bajpe police have registered a case under the unlawful activity prevention act. Already three teams have been formed to identify the accused and detention of the same.
