Tight Security in place for President Ramnath Kovind’s Udupi visit on 27 Dec
Udupi: The police have beefed up security ahead of the President of India Ramnath Kovind’s visit to Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi on December 27.
He will take part in the felicitation programme of Pejawar Math Sri Vishvesha Teertha Swamiji, organised on the occasion of 80th anniversary of Sanyasa Deeksha of the Seer, to be held in front of Pejawar Math.
The President will arrive at the Adi-Udupi Helipad at 11.35 am and then head to the Inspection Bungalow. Later the president will participate the Guruvandana Programme of Pejawar Swamiji, following which he will visit Sri Krishna Math and temple. All shops from SMSP Sanskrit College to Car Street and around Car Street will remain closed from 6 am to 4 pm on 27 December. General public and devotees will not be allowed to enter the Math and Temple from 6 am to 3 pm.
The security measures are so tight that all the shops on Car Street and in the vicinity of Sri Krishna Math and the Inspection Bungalow have been closed since Wednesday morning for security reasons. “We have made very tight security arrangements for the President’s visit,” said Superintendent of Police, Laxman Nimbaragi.
Since the President’s cavalcade will move from Udupi to Manipal road, the potholes on the roads have been filled. Even the inspection bungalow, where the president will stay for a few minutes, has been painted. The room in the bungalow where the President will be resting too has been provided with facilities. Udupi police have diverted the traffic on a few stretches in Udupi town from 7 am to 4 pm on December 27.
Vehicles from Malpe and Kalmadi will have to pass through Kalmadi Junction, Kidiyooru Junction, Ambalpady Welcome Arch and Jodukatte to enter Udupi.
Vehicles from Kundapur, Brahmavar and Santhekatte should use the Ambagilu, Rasika Bar Junction, Doddanagudde, Manojigudde, Law College Junction, SMK Junction and Beedanagudde route.
Vehicles from Karkala, Hiriyadka and Manipal should pass through SKM Junction, Beedanagudde, Mission Compound and Udupi.
Vehicles travelling from Udupi to Malpe should pass through Jodukatte, Kinnimulki, Ambalpady, Kidiyooru and Kalmadi.
The district police carried out a mock drill here on Wednesday ahead of President Kovind’s visit to Udupi.
Udupi SP Laxman Nimbaragi and Assistant Commissioner Kundapur T Bhoobalan along with other senior police officials reviewed security arrangements ahead of the President’s visit. The police team conducted a convoy rehearsal from Adi-Udupi Helipad to Krishna Math today and the traffic was stopped at important inter-crossings of the Udupi city in order to ensure smooth passage of the convoy.
While informing about security measures, SP Laxman Nimbaragi told that special security passes have been issued to police personnel, who are deployed for VVIP security for tomorrow. Selected media persons only allowed who were received pass for coverage president news, he said.
