To Avoid Untoward Incidents Happening, Govt Should Immediately BAN Cow Slaughtering’- Rama Sene

Mangaluru: Having still NOT succeeded in the their efforts since years in urging the government to put a BAN on Cow Slaughtering, the members of local Rama Sene, trying their luck once again in urging the state government to ban cow slaughtering immediately, held a press meet at Mangaluru Press Club on this issue.

Addressing the media persons, Rama Sene Dakshina Kannada President Kiran B Amin said, “Illegal cow trafficking and illegal slaughtering of the cows hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindus and the State is dominated by the Hindus. In the previous occasions, this issue has led to many unpleasant incidents in the State that ended in communal riots. And recently, we are seeing there have been attacks on persons illegally transporting cattle, and police filing cases on both sides. The only way out to get rid of the incidents damaging the normal peace process is to implement cow slaughter ban by the government at the earliest”
Also speaking on the occasion, Manjunath Kunder- State President of Rama Sene said, “We are not putting a deadline, but we are continuing our struggle. We urge the government to pass a legislation in banning cow slaughtering since it was the dream of Gandhiji, and hence the Congress party too should support the legislation. Banning illegal transportation of cows and prohibiting cow slaughtering is necessary for harmony. Gandhi had said without cow protection ‘Swaraj’ is incomplete. We are just following the principles of Gandhi, and trying all our efforts in seeing that cow slaughter ban is implemented soon”.

Speaking on the recent incident where a gang of saffron activists intercepted the vehicle and attacked the driver Mohammed Haneef who was transporting cattle, Kiran Amin said, “Couple of days ago, Mohammed Haneef had held a press meet blaming the police for their partiality, and trying to himself to be innocent. Bajrang Dal activists only intercepted the vehicle but were not involved in the attacks on Haneef. It could be the locals out of anger might have attacked Haneef. But , If you look into Haneef’s past history, He is an interstate cattle thief. Last year when cattle that Haneef was transporting was seized at Jokatte in an incident, he by producing false documents, took away the cattle, and later his supporters burst crackers and celebrated. There have been various cattle theft cases booked against Haneef in Brahmavar, Sakleshpur, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Uppinangady and Panambur police stations. ”
“In Brahmavara a case was booked against him- No 189/2019 Column 8, 9, 11 under Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Prevention, and column 11 (1) (D) the Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Column 192 (A) 1 MV Act; In Sakleshpur No 152/2019 column 8 and 9 Karnataka Prevention of Cow and Slaughter/cattle preservation Act and Column 192 1 MV Act; In Uppinangady No 144/2019 column 4,5,11 Karnataka Prevention of Cow slaughter/Cattle Preservation Act, and column 177, 192 1 MV Act; In Panambur, No 45/19 column 4,5,8,9,11, 12 Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter/Cattle preservation Act , and column 379 1 PC. Then how can he say that he is innocent in the recent case at Urwa. He has been named as a rowdy sheeter by Panambur station. So we urge the district administration to invoke Goonda Act against Haneef. We support the Urwa police station in their action taken against Haneef” added Amin.

But when a reporter asked, instead of the activists taking law into their own hands, and get in trouble with the police, and unnecessary cases booked against them, which will remain on their records, why can’t your organization call the police and handle the issue rather than all these consequences, for which Amin struggled to give back a right answer. Another reporter asked that when cows/cattle get hurt in accidents or through other incidents, how come no saffron activists come forward to help out in such incidents-it’s always the animal lovers or Touseef Ahmed-a Animal activist who handle the situation- for which there was no right answer from Amin nor Kunder. Oh well!

Santhosh Shetty, Harshith Adyar, and Vachan Kumar, were other members of Rama Sene present on the dais during the press meet.
