To Flood Victims With Love! Class V Girl Student Sanmathi, studying at Sharada Vidya Niketana near Talapady, Donates her Rs 10 Thousand Birthday Gift to Relief Fund
Mangaluru : For the past few days Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada has been dealing with floods unleashed by incessant rainfall in the state. People from all walks of life have come forward to contribute and send relief material to the flood-ravaged state. Among them is this 10-year-old girl who decided to donate the money she received on her birthday which was on 25 August, after she read about the plight of the flood victims.
When every child is looking forward to celebrate his/her birthday in a grand manner amidst parents, relatives and friends, but Sanmathi, studying in 5th standard at Sharada Vidya Niketana in Kinya, near Talapady, who had been reading about the plight of flood victims for the last 10 days, decided to donate the Rs 10,000 which was given to her as birthday from her grandmother, to the Calamity Relief Fund.
While she celebrated birthday with her parents at her house in Kutharpadavu near Thokkuttu on last Sunday, she visited the Deputy Commissioner’s office clad in her school uniform on Monday, 26 August morning before leaving for school. She handed over a cheque for the amount to Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil, who patted her for the gesture.Along with the cheque she also handed over a letter requesting the DC to provide more facilities to flood victims.
Inn her letter she wrote-“I am Sanmathi, studying in the 5th standard at Sharada Vidyaniketana in Kinya. Sir, my birthday was on 25 August and my father bought me a beautiful dress for me as gift. Even my grandma has given me some money to buy a new dress, but when Icame to know taht most parts of Karnataka have got flooded, and many people have been injured, I decided to donate the money to the people who have lost their houses and all their properties due to floods”.
It is learnt that Sanmathi is the second daughter of B T Nithin, who works as a section officer in the Pre-University Education Department in Mangaluru, and the granddaughter of former Puttur MLA T. Shakunthala Shetty. DC Sasikanth after accepting the cheque lauded Sanmathi for her kind gesture towards the flood victims.
