‘Today Was the Best (South Indian) Lunch We Had So Far’- Migrants thanking DK Students Mithun Rai Fan Club’ Youth during the distribution of afternoon meals at Milagres Institutions, Mangaluru on Tuesday, 19 May 2020. Since a week, nearly 600 migrants who were stranded in Mangaluru trying to catch a train to their native places in Northern India, were lodged at Milagres Institutions, and the food that was served all these days to them by the district administration was of poor quality, insufficient and always delayed in serving them- but they were all happy with the lunch ( comprising of rice, gherkin sukka, sambhar, boiled egg, pickle) served today by these youngsters- compliments to the cooks of Prince Caterers who prepared the delicious Oota!
Also today evening, Team Cause under the leadership of Suhan Alva served these 600 plus migrants with mouth-watering Hangyo Fruit flavoured Ice Candies, and also distributed face masks. Seems like a Bumper Treat for the migrants today – a sumptuous breakfast in the morning, a delicious South India Lunch in the afternoon, a mouth-watering treat of Ice Candies, (plus face masks) and a nice supper at night. With all the goodies provided at Milagres, I hope they won’t decide to stay back there forever?
Mangaluru: “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems” had said Mahatma Gandhi, and Mother Teresa once said, “We cannot do great things on this Earth, Only small things with great love.”- and for that matter, a bevvy of youngsters belonging to the Dakshina Kannada Mithun Rai (President of D K Youth Congress) Fan Club, have been doing yeomen community service to help the less fortunate and the needy with love, during the lockdown to contain Covid-19. Following two reports that Team Mangalorean had published ( Ref: Making a Difference! ‘DK Students Mithun Rai Fan Club’ Youth Feed the Needy & Stray Dogs ) and (Ref: ‘Mithun Rai Abhimani Balaga’ donates Rs 30K to a Mother for Son’s Medical Expenses ), this energetic Team has once again stepped forward in feeding the hungry mass of migrants lodged at Milagres Institutions, Mangaluru.
These youngsters are trying hard to make a difference in the lives of the needy in the community, especially during this pandemic, where many migrant workers and low wage labourers are suffering, with no income. So far this Team has distributed food to more than 8000 people in and around DK, since their start date, 13 days ago. Recently they also donated Rs 30,000 towards the medical expenses of a young man who was seriously injured due to a fall during a house roof work. The initiative was taken up by Primus Mario D’Souza, who just completed his Bachelors in Hotel Management at Milagres Degree College, Mangaluru- and was joined by his friends, namely-Alfaz Hameed, Arfak, Priston, Rishanth, Lohith, Ravi, Arun, Reevan among others- and together they have all made a difference in the society through their service to humanity and stray animals.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Fr Michael Santhumayor- Campus Director at Milagres Institutions said, “Last Tuesday, the district administration requested us to provide our Milagres School campus to accommodate 50-100 migrant transit workers of UP for one or two days, until their train arrangements are done, but now it’s almost a week, where we have over 600 migrants, both gents and ladies here. There were quite a few complaints about the insufficient, untimely and poor standard of food, except for the food supplied by White Doves, the migrants were impatient, and hence listening to their plea I told the Revenue department that we ourselves will make arrangements for food from today onwards through different Organizations. Those people who are in our campus are our guests, they to be treated and fed well, till they are here – and hence today Morning breakfast was supplied by John Monteiro, joined by Milagres St Anthony Ward people. Noon Lunch was provided by Primus D’Souza of Prince Caterers and his Mithun Rai Fan Club. Evening snacks were provided by Team Cause and night meals sponsored by John Samuel of Dubai. If these migrants are happy, we are happy”.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Primus D’Souza said, “The main motive behind this is to inspire young minds to join hands to eradicate hunger. Thousands of people are struggling for basic food due to the Corona Lockdown, and for the last few weeks, we provided lunch daily to these migrants. When Fr Santhumayor requested me whether I would sponsor lunch today for these 600 plus migrants housed at Milagres Institutions, and being an Alumnus of this institution I readily agreed, and along with my team members of Mithun Rai Fans Club, we are happy that we fed these hungry souls and put a smile on their faces. Glad to note that they loved our food, after experiencing poor quality meals all these days. My dad, Philip D’Souza, who owns ‘Prince Caterers’ sponsored the food.”
‘TEAM CAUSE’ headed by SUHAN ALVA & GANG Serve HANGYO ICE CANDIES and also distribute FACE MASKS to the MIGRANTS at MILAGRES.
Citizen Alliance to Uphold Service and Exchange (CAUSE) founded by then PUC Students Suhan Alva and Mohammed Shawaz of St Aloysius Pre-University College-Mangaluru has now become an incubator for the formation of a social conscience, since its inception six years ago. It has inspired young students to look beyond themselves and in doing so, has touched countless lives in and around Mangaluru. They have also reached out to the less fortunate in little ways, bringing them smiles and joy and the assurance that all lives matters. During the lockdown, since 25 March, this group of youngsters from Team CAUSE have been distributing Food, Water, Tea, Biscuits to the needy people across Mangaluru City, and also to the Police on duty. (Ref: ‘Team CAUSE” headed by Suhan Alva & Gang Serve Food to the Needy during Lockdown in City)
CAUSE has been doing a magnificent and tremendous work is serving the community with its members as Good Samaritans. It’s not just the indigent of society-it is the youth too who have been strengthened in carrying out philanthropic work with no complaints or hesitations. After all, these youngsters are not what they do for money, they’re what they do for love. I praise these young masses of CAUSE which has grown immensely in their passion and drive in their service to the society- and to my buddy Suhan Alva, I say “Bravo Comrade, for your initiative to form CAUSE”, to help people in times of distress and hardship. The efforts of the Team CAUSE in helping out the society during this time of pandemic through this little contribution while still young is praiseworthy. May God bless Team CAUSE for what they are all doing.
And this evening (19 May 2020 at 5:30 pm) ‘Team CAUSE’ headed by Suhan Alva & Gang ( Mohammed Shawaz, Mueez Darbar, Ganesh Nayak Mulki, Sinan Ibrahim, Joshua D’Souza & Miss Sameeksha Subash) along with the Managing Partner of Hangyo Ice Cream Pvt Ltd Ms Deepa Pai distributed over 600 Hangyo Ice Candies, and also face masks for the migrants, which was enjoyed by all of them- and they expressed their gratefulness to Team CAUSE and Hangyo.
In conclusion, speaking about these youngsters of both the Organizations, they are making a difference with their generosity and service. God has given us two hands-one to receive, and one to give. And this has been the initiative of these energetic and young Team members, where they are helping the needy during this pandemic. What an excellent concept and gesture from these youth, which the Team has created a compassionate heart among the youth, and they have become conscious of the downtrodden. It’s nice to note that the members of this Club are doing yeomen service to the community.
